5.0 out of 5 stars IT'S THE REAL THING, March 15, 2006

This is my favorite ever! The samples are so classic taking me back to being a young pup, bridging synaptic gaps that lay open for decades. The 'Cooking with Gas' commercial samples and the Coca-Cola samples were a great ride back to the seventies. BUT this is not a 70's hits mix of any sort. GET IT, YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, January 18, 2010
This review is from: Product Placement (Audio CD)
DJ Shadow said in his typically brief notes to 2007's The Hard Sell (Encore) that he and partner in 45s Cut Chemist were never going to stop their mixing duels/collaborations. There are three, the other two being this, and Brainfreeze: A Nonstop Live Mix of Strictly 45's and Exercise in Vinyl Destruction

And why ever should they, with litterally an entire world of music and recorded sound at their disposal? The possibilities are, quite concretely, endless.

These heavenly twins are THE masters at the craft of taking found sounds and turning them to heavenly music. If every sound put to tape were incinerated in a nuclear blast, I'd wait six months to see what these two would do with surviving garden tools.

This of course has all the soul and funk breaks and soundbytes to 70s popular culture: if I get the hint, Shadow and Chemist are trying to digitally simulate a 1970s local radio or TV broadcast---local broadcasts when the world was local, not global.

But all that is abstract: the subtext is part of the fun, but even if you are not interested in that, you have to get this mix.
