Making wine and oil in antiquity,
By A Customer
This review is from: Wine and Oil Production in Antiquity in Israel and Other Mediterranean Countries (Jsot/Asor Monographs, 10) (Hardcover)
Dr. Frankel has produced an excellent volume which summarizes the production technology of wine and oil in the ancient world. Though concentrating on the Eastern Mediterranean region (primarily modern day Israel), he reviews finds from sites throughout the Mediterranean, covering a wide range of periods, from the Bronze age until Modern times. By dealing with both the production technology and the relevant ancient sources (both about the technology and the products themselves), Frankel is able to produce an excellent, comprehensize overview of two aspects of life that were central in the ancient Mediterranean economy, subsistence and lifestyle. This book will serve as the basic reference book on this subject for years to come.
