Excellent music, excellent collection!, December 19, 2007
This review is from: Products of Disgust (Audio CD)
I grew up on metal; it's in my blood. Presently, at the age of 35, I'm in grad school, and I'm a DJ producing a metal show at KTUH college radio in Honolulu, Hawaii. I've always been a rabid collector of cds, and since I've been a DJ, I've never bought so much music. I'm in the process of collecting all of my favorite thrash albums from the 80s (when I came into my metalhood), and I'm exploring artists that I somehow missed. Cerebral Fix is one of those bands I missed. Perhaps it was due to them being from England and not receiving much US press.
To my shagrin, I had never heard of these guys before this release.Metal Mind Poland has been re-releasing some incredible metal classics, so when I noticed they were responsible for this offering, I took a chance. I tried to find song samples elsewhere on the net ( since amazon does not) and I found their myspace page with a track sample on board. I liked what I heard and threw caution to the wind.
The product is better than I had expected. The cds come housed in the typical tall folding gate with a nice book inside, all neatly tucked into a slipcase. The remastering is outstanding, and the music is incredible. The vocals remind me of Killjoy from Necrophagia, and the music is top notch thrash with heavy crunching riffs, tight savage drumming, and some serious lead guitarage that is all but gone from most of today's metal. This stuff is brilliant. It's loud, crunchy, balls-to-the-wall metal, but they manage to vary the tempo and pace to create a listening experience that does not numb the ears.
Thumbs up!

Disgusting!, June 6, 2009

CEREBRAL FIX - PRODUCTS OF DISGUST (Box Set)
Complete discography of Cerebral Fix - English thrash/death metal band. Box consist of 4 CDs (all with bonus tracks: demo, unreleased and live tracks) plus a 32 page booklet with full band history. Includes 5 brand new tracks recorded exclusively for this box!! Digitally remastered using 24 Bit process on a golden disc, limited edition to 2000 numerated copies.
Well I thought Life Sucks... And Then You Die! (1988, Vinyl Solution Records) was their first album? I guess Metal Mind Productions only had the rights to reissue the Roadrunner albums and the band's independent demo. No numbering as on my Artillery Box Set (which was 1,944 out of 2,000).
... The demo stuff "Product Of Disgust" is pretty much unlistenable to me. Frank Healy & Andy Baker (both ex-Sacriliege) turned CF into a true metal band starting on the Tower Of Spite demo (not included in the box set). Stuck the POD CD in the box set package.
Using the Tower Of Spite reissue as comparison ... the reissue's sound was ... cleaner, clearer, louder and not as muddy.
The 4 CD box set is a piece of garbage ... no cases ... not even horrendous Digipaks! Put the new discs in the original TOS & Bastards CD cases and made my own Death Erotica CD case.
... All the bonus tracks (except on Death Erotica) are garbage sounding bootleg material.
Discography:
- We Need Therapy (Demo) (1987)
- Product of Disgust (Demo) (1987)
- Life Sucks... And Then You Die! (1988, Vinyl Solution Records)
- Tower Of Spite (Demo) (1990)
- Tower Of Spite (1990, Roadrunner Records)
- Bastards (1991, Roadrunner Records)
- Death Erotica (1992, Music For Nations/Under One Flag)
Wasn't too happy when about a year later Metal Mind Productions released all the above discs singularly! That means they came in at least a crappy Digipak ... not some stupid "book".
