Before I purchased this item, I had reviewed the manufacturer's video on their many uses and had high hopes that these could be used for its intended purpose while permanently mounted (e.g., on raised-bed planks for holding down winter tarps). This is not the case, as the design requires a gap under the base to work. You can jury-rig a solution involving many small washers under it, but I also found the Grabbits to require a large bit of force to get on and off (even with just one tarp involved), usually requiring the help of a hammer. If you just wish to hold two or more tarps together or tether one or more via rope, then it may well work fine for you.
