5.0 out of 5 stars Beck's Opinion
I recieved one of these cheese slicers for a wedding gift. I like it so much and use it all the time I ended up getting 2 to give as gifts because I am that confident that people will enjoy and use them. The wire on the cutter is different than other slicers and makes a fantastic tight pull cutting firm and thin slices every time. My children use it more than I do as they...

2.0 out of 5 stars A big disappointment
A wood-slab cheese slicer such as this one is a must-have item in my kitchen. So when the wire broke on my old one after many faithful years of use I was anxious to replace it right away. This model looks attractive, but right away I noticed that the wire was not nearly as taut as that of my old one. It did not do a very good job cutting cheese. Moreover, the more I...

The wire on the cutter is different than other slicers and makes a fantastic tight pull cutting firm and thin slices every time. My children use it more than I do as they make their lunches. The slicer cleans up easy with a wipe off and I have had NO problems with mine after 5 years of daily use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, January 27, 2007

I love this slicer. My friend has one and recommended it to me. It cuts the slices evenly and easily! The hand held ones always irritated me because there wasn't much control with it and my hand would always end up jammed against the counter. Plus, the slicer would never cut the end off right so you'd end up with a torn piece of cheese! Needless to say, I am thrilled with this new slicer.

5.0 out of 5 stars You need to but this!!!, December 24, 2007

I promise, you will be doing yourself a MASSIVE disservice if you don't get this cheese slicer. We (2 people) go through cheese at a frightening rate... I have graters, slicers, everything you can imagine, and generally I use my good knives to cut through our cheese (except hard cheeses - that's a whole different set of tools there). However, since this baby came into our lives, we've been slicing up cheese like there's no tomorrow. The wire is easy to adjust, and the item as a whole is very good quality. This will be on my counter for years to come!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice slicer, September 23, 2008

I bought it and it works great. Stainless cutting wire should last pretty much forever it says, but they offer free replacements for life. Slices super straight and thin/thick as you want.

I had a marble version of this same product, made by a different company, for years. Eventually, all the wires broke and I replaced them with thin picture wire. Then, however, the handle cracked and fell apart and it was time for something new.

I decided to try something different since the marble piece had been a little bit cumbersome. Initially, I bought a really cool handheld piece with a wire and roller, as well as the ability to adjust the thickness of the slices. It was horrible. The wire wouldn't stay taught, it was unable to finish slices smoothly, and in general was a giant step backward.

So, I thought I'd go back to what I new in the form of this product. However, I chose this one because I thought the wood board looked better than a marble one and I was hoping it would be a little lighter. I wasn't dissappointed. It looks great, works very well on all types of cheeses, and due to it's light weight stores very easily. Great product, I'm very pleased.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love, love, love it!!!, March 19, 2008

We've had a ton of cheese slicers, but this is by far our favorite. Now, we save money by buying the larger blocks of cheese, and cutting them as needed. I would definitely recommend to others. I wish it had qualified for free shipping, but I will say that I ordered it on Monday evening and had it by Tuesday afternoon.

This slicer works great on most cheeses. It doesn't work very well on harder cheeses though.

Moreover, the more I used it the looser the wire got, so that it would "bottom out" before finishing a slice. Eventually I found an extra one (of a model that is no longer available) in the attic that I'd forgotten I had, and I junked the Prodyne.

I ordered this after destroying several of the adjustable-thickness hand held cheese cutters. The wires broke and the adjustable knobs would never hold tight.

I really like this cheese slicer. The end grain design is very attractive. It is easy to use, and easy to clean. I can easily slice chunks/cubes of cheese or very thin slices from large blocks of cheese which are more cost-effective than buying pre-sliced/cubed cheese. I see no substantial difference in performance of this slicer when cutting soft cheeses vs. hard cheeses. No complaints. Would recommend this item. The price (~$20) is appropriate for the product.

I'm very pleased with this slicer. It's not overly large, but certainly big enough to tackle most of the cheese slicing tasks I encounter. It got quite the workout over the holidays when my family, serious cheese-lovers all, descended for a visit. This little unit held up beautifully, showing no signs of wear and tear.

Be sure to read the enclosed instructions -- the slicer is shipped with the slicer mechanism a little off-center. You need to pull the handle out about 1/2" in order to line up the cutting wire with the slot. After that, it's fine, but don't try to slice cheese with this until you've made that adjustemnt or you could break the wire. The instructions explain what you need to do.

In my opinion, this is the closest thing to a perfect cheese slicer that I've found.
