4.0 out of 5 stars Impressions from Profane, December 31, 2004
By
JRGuitargeek (Vista, Ca United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Profane (Audio CD)
Couch - Profane is difficult to label. I guess I will call it experimental post rock. The first thing I noticed, as a producer and studio engineer, is that the tracks all sound really thick and rich. The production is fantastic, and it gives Couch their own sound.

The first two tracks Plan and Alle Auf Pause are both fantastic. They are upbeat jam songs that are very accesible and you can enjoy them immediately.

Doch Endlich is also a great song. This one definantly has more of that post rock feel.

The other great thing about this album is the drumming. Finding drumming like this is rare. Couch has some of the coolest beats you will hear. They are thick, they are all really tight and innovative. I could listen to the drums by themselves and still enjoy the album.

You should definantly buy this album. I would also reccomend it over their first CD "Fantasy." Although Fantasy is good, Profane is better.

4.0 out of 5 stars German Engineering, American Upholstery, July 9, 2001
By
Dirk Hugo (Cape Town, South Africa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Profane (Audio CD)
Couch's German roots are all too evident in the solid "motorik" grooves that form the foundation of these instrumental pieces - a more steadfast interpretation of the rhythmic legacy established by the likes of Can, Neu! And Kraftwerk. The surprise comes in the form of delicately chiming and deliciously abrasive guitar accompaniment, more reminiscent of American outfits like Band Of Susans or Slint than European counterparts. Couch's music is carefully considered, deceptively monotonous yet ever-building in intensity, and goes that little bit further towards dismantling whatever stereotypes may exist regarding German "post" rock bands.
