The first place I look for answers,
By
This review is from: Professional C#, Second Edition (Paperback)
This book is the best book I have found on C# to date. It covers such a wide range of topics that almost anything you could want to look up is in it.Another thing about this book is although it covers advanced C# topics it also spends the first 300 or so pages introducing you to the language and some of its guidelines. In Feb 2002 I was told I would be switching from VB6 to C# that day and we were no longer going to be writing anything in VB6, so I bought this book and now it is my C# Bible.

As good as it gets!,

This is truly a useful book, and my primary reference in parallel with the MSDN documentation. That is, it does not merely parrot the C# documentation, but supplements it. It gives behind-the-scenes insights, as well as useful application examples and snippets. It's as good as a 1272 page book on this expansive subject can get.

Exellent Book,

I don't agree that the authors used too many words. Each topic is covered clearly and succinctly. The reason the book is large is that it covers a huge amount of information (look at the table of contents). It is easy to read because the style is that of a person explaining the important points rather than a rehash of a manual. It gives insight and perspective not just facts. Lastly, there is no need to read the book cover to cover. I started with appendix A and B, then read the first 3 chapters and then skipped to the ADO.NET and ASP.NET sections.

The coverage of this book is excellent! You can hardly find a book that offers such a rich coverage of knowledge about how to code everything in windows envoriment, windows services, active directory, Registry. As experienced programmers, I and my coworker got a lot out of this book. It is my bible for us to learn new things that we didn't know, such as windows services and active directory. I really admire the authors's wide spectrum of knowledge of MS products, and sincertely appreciate it for their willing to share with us. The book is worth every penny its price.

I have only reached the 250 pages on this book, I would say this is by far the best C# book that I own. I do agree that the book is verbose. Most important thing is that the subject matter is covered extensively.

No too bad, however examples must be given in full,

I must say that i am not overly excited about this book. It would have been beneficial to the reader if all exmaples were given in full, even if the book is aimed at the professional. The most frustrating part of the book for me was the Windows Services. I had to resort to the Internet to obtain example source to get a working Window Service. This Basically goes for the rest of the book. Authors... please don't take this personal, see it as constructive.
I must say that i don't believe there should be more than one author to a book. The writing styles are different and confuses the reader. Secondly some chapters may be more effecient than others getting the message across. There is a tendancy to have many authors just to produce a book. From a Marketing point of view this may sound great and may sell books, but take it from me this is getting more irritating than worth reading. I went and ordered another C# book with more than one author contributing to it's content and i hope that i have been proven wrong. I would like to see more WROX books with authors like Ivor Horton. The examples are complete and work 100%. The book is Beginning VC++ 6.0. See how this book is written then one will know what i talking about. Lastly, one author, one style = Good start to the creation of a book.

I'm an experienced VB programmer and used this book in order to get up to speed in C#. In just 2 weeks I was comfortably programmin in C#. It covers almost every key topic used in day to day work. For specific questions I use the web. This book can't cover and I think is not intendeed to go full deepth in all the topics. It starts from scratch so you may want to skip many pages, but you will definetly find most of the topics you search for.

1200 pages for the topics covered,

The authors of this book must get paid by the word. They will write 50 words where only 10 are required(I have other Wrox Books with the same problem). The breadth of coverage is good, but its unusable due to the amount of reading it takes to get the information. If this book were 500 pages with the same coverage it would be a 4.5 star book.

Extremely good book. I am a java programmer and this book was very helpful in understanding the C# language. Each topic is treated very thoroughly. Using the class library reference from msdn is my recommendation while using this book. If you want to learn the C# language, i would definitely recommend this book.
