This is a great collection of sheet music both for the standards it contains and the chord substitutions Mr. Hyman shares. And, while there isn't much text in it, the familiarity you get with him as a person is certainly there. Its amazing how much you can glean from a musician based on his chord substitutions! And while that doesn't extend to his personal life, I know that he's played throughout the latter end of the 20th century as a working musician. You'll be able to tell too .. these are tunes you're likely to be all too familiar with, but he gives you a ton of options in what seems mostly like the original keys they were written in. And, based on his selections, you also know about where he's been playing and what his audiences like (or perhaps more saliently what he likes to entertain his audiences with). Must have for working musicians .. and consider the accompanying 2nd volume. All the standards all the time. This was written from a keyboard players point of view, but as a guitarist, I've learned a ton from it.

Lots of information in this book. As a banjoist, I am always looking for another opinion on what other chords can be used in a song. This adds color and sophistication to your performing.
This book has lots of them!

A Very Good Mix, Heavy on the Gershwin,
This review is from: Professional Chord Changes and Substitutions for 100 Tunes Every Musician Should Know (Paperback)
A wonderful opportunity to learn some solid changes. It's a pleasure for us younger players to memorize pieces using such a reliable, high-quality fake book of jazz/pop standards--often sung by Sinatra, Bennett, Connick, Krall and many others. Please keep them coming Mr. Hyman, keep them coming.
