Product Description

The Santamedical non-contact infrared (IR) clinical thermometer provides a simple, expedient, and accurate way for initial fever screenings by taking the surface temperature of areas on the face such as the forehead or tear ducts. It obtains the body temperature reading with 0.3 degree accuracy in less than 1 second through a click. The IR thermometer features an intuitive guidance system to secure positioning and confirm accurate readings. Temperatures (Fahrenheit or Celsius) are displayed on a huge back-lit LCD screen for easier reading even in total darkness. Adjustable audio alarm will alert you if the temperature is too high. Since there is no contamination risk, one can immediately start again to scan the temperature of other family members or individuals without having to disinfect or changing the tip. It was designed specifically for forehead temperature detection from a 1"-4" (5-15cm) distance with an 89-109 F(32.0-43.0C) temperature range. Unlike other IR thermometers that only measure surface temperature, It is clinically calibrated to convert the forehead temperature reading(external surface) into internal body temperature which is one of the most important vital signs for human being. It can also store 32 temperature readings for future reference. The bright back-lit LCD screen displays readings even in darkness. A sleeping baby or patient will not be disturbed by the thermometer as it is used nor will it cause any discomfort if they are awake. For public health authorities, it provides a simple, quick, Non-contact, and non-invasive way to perform preliminary mass-screening for H1N1 fever (swine flu) infection symptoms (body temperatures above 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit or 37 degrees Celsius). It can take over 100,000 readings on a single set of 2 AA batteries (included). With its rugged, impact and water resistant design, It is able to take over 3,000,000 measurements in the product's lifetime , Fahrenheit readings.

Every time I take my child's temperature I get a different reading by at least 1 degree within 30 seconds of the previous reading.

We have purchased 10 different thermometers for our Surgical Center, and this is the best one to date. It reads accurately and is simple to use. Our nurses are thrilled with this new addition and the patients think we are high tech with a simple and inexpensive thermometer.

This has got to be the best thermometer I have used so far. I bought this for my newborn, I wanted something that would be accurate and not bother him too much while taking the readings. We have used it on and off, just to reassure us that our little boy was doing ok. Lord behold, one night the temperature reading was 100.2, next morning I took him to the pediatrician, and first time the nurse took the temperature under his arms, it was 98.1 and she was like, its ok....I took the temperature then, with my thermometer, and it was showing 100.4, well, I asked her to take the temperature again, she was a bit reluctant, but I was persitent, so we decided to take a rectal temp reading, in this case, both thermometers read 100.5 - while the doctor's thermometer was very intrusive, this was I just pointed and took the reading from about 3 inches away. Could not be any easier or better. When the doctor finally came in, he had already heard the story about this "magical device" and he wrote down the model number from me, wanting to order one for himself. So, there you go, I will highly recommend this to everyone, specially if you have a young child.

I have 2 daughters and one of them has Down syndrome. My 2 year old, with Down syndrome, gets ear infections a lot and she also has an average temp of 100f. I love how there is an alarm on this that I can set for 102f so I know if she has an ear infection. I tend to check her everyday so this is a lifesaver!

I work as a nurse at a nursing home. The tympanic thermometer are always being sent in for repair. Love this thermometer. No more contact keeping the thermometer clean. No more buying covers. Much cheaper. The facility will be buying more.

Just went to check my daughter's temp and ???... the thing doesn't work!!! I purchased and recieved this exactly one year ago this month and have hardly used it. For $50 you would think it would last longer than a year... VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!!

Added 25 January 2012: While I was disappointed that the thermometer did not last as long as I would have liked I am VERY IMPRESSED with the customer service of Oximeter Superstore and for that alone I will have to increase my rating for this item and if I were able to rate the company itself I would give it a 10 out of 10!!! With this I would recommend purchasing from Oximeter Superstore.

Thank you very much to all at Oximeter Superstore!!!

I bought this given it was the cheapest, highest rated IR thermometer I could find and I needed something ASAP to check my 6 month old's temperature when all other methods were failing. After getting the unit I noticed that all the other reviews appear to have been planted to boost the rating of this product and get some sales (in particular the typos and vagueness of some of the reviews, including mentioning shopping on this company's website for more products? come on now). Anyways I'd invite any of the other reviewers to prove me wrong on their authenticity.
At any rate, here is my real review:
First thing I noticed is the product model number didn't match the one on the box I received. The product looks the same as the pictures on this product page, but the model number was not. It does have all the features mentioned though, except the "intuitive guidance" that it claims. Also the sensor opening doesn't appear to have any cover over it. I'd expect some sort of clear plastic shield or something, but instead it's just a large opening. I'd just be careful not to get anything in there that might mess it up.
At first when I inserted the batteries that either it didn't work at all or the batteries that came with it were dead. I tried some other batteries and it powered up, so I then checked the voltage of the batteries that came with it and they were charged. I then discovered that the negative terminal of the batteries that came with the unit had some sort of label stamped on them in an ink that was preventing a connection to be made. The ink rubbed off and the batteries then worked.
Once I got it actually working the measurements I was getting seemed pretty good. It typically measures about 98.4 on me when my temp with a standard oral thermometer was 98.6.

Our son was taken to the hospital ER recently after his 2 day + high fever was not controlled with Tylenol. We brought this thermometer, thinking that it might have been inaccurate, like all home thermometers seem to be. So, after the ER nurse used their thermometer to check our son's temp, I then compared that to this thermometer. They were the same. I then asked what the staff thought of it and they said that it seemed to be highly accurate - more accurate than any home thermometer, and a lot easier to use with children due to it's speed and non-contact nature.

This is HIGHLY recommended!

We bought this item particularly to use with our baby. We had received item as described and as shown in picture on time. We did receive model ry220 as depicted in the picture. It appears sturdy and had been easy to use. We like that it is backlit, large display, and comes with a carry case. But the features I like best and most of all is that it need not touch the skin so we can get a temperature without waking baby up and can get temperatures in just a few seconds. I also like that it can be switched between body tmp or surface temp. We just hope that it will last much longer than what another reviewer had stipulated. So far we seem to have gotten accurate readings compared to a regular thermometer. Overall a great product for us at this point.
