Yo Wrox - Hire some editors,
By
This review is from: Professional ColdFusion 5.0 (Paperback)
This is basically a fine book that covers a lot of ground. As a long time CF developer, I have read almost every CF book on the market, and I would only consider this one after I had Ben Forta's WACK and Advanced books and the O'Reilly Programming CF.I see the poor editing and inconsitant examples as part of a downward trend for Wrox books, which used to be right at the top, but now are declining in quality. It is disappointing.

Very useful,

This book was a great addition to my CF Web Application Construction Kit by Forta. I found that the book explained topics fairly well, but there was a lack of code examples. I'm the kind of person that needs to see the syntax. Also, I looked for hours on how to perform a simple multiple update using checkboxes. This book barely acknowledged them and provided no examples on how to incorporate them into a form using CF. I realize, however, that my incident may be isolated.

Delicious Cold Fusion Resource,
By A Customer
This review is from: Professional ColdFusion 5.0 (Paperback)
Coming back to the review of this book instead of talking about Jrun and Cold fusion merging together, I found this book to be an excellent resource for Cold fusion 5.0. Although I have the Cold fusion 4 book by Ben forta which most of us have and over 3 years of cold fusion programming experience, This book provides more insights, more information, more tips and advice than the Ben Forta's book. The people that wrote this books are truly experts. Takes you from installation to beginner to advanced levels. Each tag of Cold fusion is clearly explained with adequate examples. If you are going to get a cold fusion 5.0 book to learn cold fusion, you will be an expert with this book, it is easy to read and understand. I recommend this book probably over Ben Forta's book. Good Luck.

A must have for all CF'ers...,

Being a ColdFusion user group president, I give this book my seal of approval. This book is well written with easy to understand examples. It will help someone with no CF knowledge all the way to the experts. This book is well laid out and is enjoyable to read. I didn't know what to expect from Wrox on this. I have been a huge Ben Forta fan but this book is just as good as his (if not better)! If you want to learn CF, or just want to get better, buy this book. You will be very happy with it.

Good book and a few 'wishes' left..,
By Marc de Ruyter (Rotterdam Netherlands) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Professional ColdFusion 5.0 (Paperback)
Good book, clearly written and with a good balance of examples, explanation and code snippets. Professional CF 5.0 also describes and explains some advanced topics like WDDX, COM and WAP but these are a little to advanced for me personally -for know that is- :)My wishlist is based on the really intermediate level: I could use some more elaboration on topics like (sorting) 'structures' and 'cfmail'. Also, the chapters on 'state management' and 'graphs' could use some more real-life example's. Concluding, these authors are the professionals, there is lots to learn here and the book it is clearly written: buy it!

This is a great resource,
By Matt Brown (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Professional ColdFusion 5.0 (Paperback)
I have had a chance to look over this book and the amount of stuff covered is amazing. I have been working with CF5 for a few months in beta and this book is still blowing me away. Right up there with Ben Forta's books as a resource....Matt Brown - Community Manager, Macromedia, Inc.

Nice,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Professional ColdFusion 5.0 (Paperback)
You only need this book if you wanna learn CF. I've found that even total begginers like me can read it. But it's written in a way that the authors are expecting the readers already another programming language. Like when they've talked about looping, they said that CF support For Next loop and didn't say anything other than that... Anywayz, it's a nice book.

The downward spiral of WROX,
By A Customer
This review is from: Professional ColdFusion 5.0 (Paperback)
WROX books used to be the only ones I'd buy; after having a grand ol' time with the ASP and ASP Databases series. The Professional series has been a real disappointment (and waste of money!). The books tend to be more wordy than necessary and spend too much time on the obvious and too little on the abstract. Cold Fusion is a fairly straight-forward programming language. WROX has somehow managed to make it much more. Perhaps too many cooks in the kitchen; looks like they had 18 authors put this beast together.Look elsewhere... |
