5.0 out of 5 stars Not rocket science -- works perfectly
Received this product and have used it for cooling cookies, sheet cakes, setting up a fried food draining rig (it fits inside a half-sheet pan perfectly), and roasting peppers.

Received this product and have used it for cooling cookies, sheet cakes, setting up a fried food draining rig (it fits inside a half-sheet pan perfectly), and roasting peppers.

Yes, roasting peppers.

In a bind and running behind, I placed it over a pair of burners and used it as a grill for blackening the skin of 12 green peppers I had planned to use for a dinner party. I thought it was ruined, but it cleaned up nicely with a soak in soap and water.

One heck of a multi-tasker!

Dimensions (for those unsure of what a sheet-pan is):

Full Sheet Pan: 26 x 18 x 1-inch
Half Sheet Pan: 13 x 18 x 1-inch <-- The rack fits within this pan.
Qtr. Sheep Pan: 13 x 9 x 1-inch

Regarding Ram Kitchen Supply, despite the defective product, my experience with them was terrific. Ordering was easy and the shipping cost was reasonable, I received the racks very quickly, and they accepted and processed my return very quickly, with no hassles or fuss. I would not hesitate to order from Ram again.

5.0 out of 5 stars best for the money, the little rack that could, November 7, 2010
By
This review is from: Professional Cross Wire Cooling Rack Half Sheet Pan Size (Kitchen)
I followed Cook's recommendation in 2008 and bought this to go with the Lincoln half-sheet pan in their review. I wanted two things: a roasting rack that could fit inside the half-sheet and that wouldn't buckle, and a cooling rack for cookies, pies and cakes. I'm very happy with it on both counts.

The rack fits in a standard half-sheet pan and prevents spills and drips while allowing air circulation for good all-over roasting. Any rack should do as much, but this one gave exceptionally good performance. The fine grid means you can roast even small-cut vegetables, or if you're roasting meat, you have that much more fat dripping away rather than staying in your finished product. As someone else noted, it's a good broiling device as well, and suitable for laying over a burner. It's better than cookie sheet for toasting bread because you won't get a soggy underside. And even though it has only two support wires instead of three, it's very sturdy and heavy-duty; I've never found anything heavy enough to cause it to buckle. It came through two turkeys and multiple pies unchanged. So considering the price difference between this one and one with three supports, I have to give this one the nod.

I also use it as a cooling rack. If you've been using a cheap grocery-store wire cooling rack with only parallel wires, you don't know what you're missing; The fine grid means saying goodbye to unwanted groove marks underneath cakes, or cookies that break off between the wide rungs. I've never had a cookie break since I switched.

I saw that some people complain that it rusted in the dishwasher. I think any rack will do this, not just this one. I've washed this on in the dishwasher a time or two without a problem, but normally don't, just in case. What counts for me is not whether I have to clean it, but whether it's hard to clean; does food stick, or come away easily? I have never yet had any food stick to this rack; it comes clean with just a light raking from a hot-soapy brush. No elbow grease required.

After using this rack a few times, I ordered a couple more, and a couple more half-sheet pans. My assortment of old cooling racks and my separate broiler pan-type roasting sets, I put out at the next yard sale. I just don't need them anymore. A good heavy half-sheet pan and a good heavy half-sheet rack do everything, in a fraction of the storage space.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm glad I listened, December 25, 2007
This review is from: Professional Cross Wire Cooling Rack Half Sheet Pan Size (Kitchen)
This cooling rack is wonderful. It is sturdy and fits exactly into the half sheet pan I ordered with it. I bought this based on a recommendation I saw in Cooks Illustrated Magazine and I am glad I did. At first I wasn't sure that there would be a noticable difference between this and the cooling rack I already owned, but I was wrong. After I compared them side by side, I gave my old rack away.

We bake lots of breads, cookies, pies at our B&B and ranch store. Having these racks that fit in a commercial 1/2 sheet baking pan is just the ticket. If you put them in a pan, then if you glaze, or dust or whatever, the toppings don't fall all over. Plus the lip of the pan is a tiny bit higher than the rack so things don't go sliding off when moved.

The racks need to either be heavier, or have a center support of some sort. I bought three, and they all immediately bowed in the center - and all we've used them for are cookies! They were too expensive to ship back and we can still use them for cookies so we kept them, but don't buy them if you ever intend to put anything heavy on them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good quality cooling rack, November 24, 2007

I bought the cooling racks to fit two half sheet pans that I bought at the same time. Since these were slightly less money I was concerned over the quality of construction. But was pleasantly surprised to discover how sturdy they are. I air dried two 21 pound turkeys on them, plenty sturdy. After cleaning I found a stack of pots/pans sitting on one and rack wasn't bending at all. I haven't tried them in high heat, but I don't doubt they'll do well. Easy clean up, no tricky spots to clean, they fit in dishwasher, too.

A real dud (a rare event on Amazon, happily). Food stuck to it, it was hard to clean, and worst of all it was covered in rust after a single trip through the dishwasher. I got rid of it and bought Chicago Metallic Extra Large Nonstick Cooling Rack 16.7-inch x 11.5-inch x .5-inch instead, which is the same size, costs the same, and has performed much better.

4.0 out of 5 stars The dimensions are spelled out, October 21, 2007
This review is from: Professional Cross Wire Cooling Rack Half Sheet Pan Size (Kitchen)
Timothy rated this 1 star as he said he did not know the dimensions.
The dimensions are clearly described above:
Cross-wire grate so cakes, cookies and pastries don't fall through wires
Welded at end of each wire
Fits inside Half Size Sheet Pan or 13 x 18 Jelly Roll Pan
Measures: 11 3/4" x 16 1/2" x 5/8"

I appreciate his concerns but his review did not help me as I can see that he did not read all of the information posted for this product.

I was looking for a large cookie cooling rack so I wouldn't have to piece together several smaller ones in order to help cool one or two batches of cookies! I also hung it on my wall in the kitchen to take up less space than it would in the cabinets. Not much to say except it does the job!
