The Title Is Misleading,
By Jodie McNamara (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Professional Digital Portrait Photography (Paperback)
I am a beginning photographer who is interested in opening my own small digital photography studio in which my specialty would be actors headshots. I was looking for an overview of "professional digital portrait photography" and so, based on the title and the expertise of the author, I bought this one. But the title is misleading; this book is ideal for already professional film photographers who are looking to make the transition to digital. The focus is not on "digital photography", but rather, on how to save time and money during the transition to and the practice of digital photography. Techniques, tools and tips for the best quality pro. digital photographs took a mostly back seat. This book should be called "How to Save Time and Make More Money in Digital Portrait Photography" because this is entirely what the book is about (with brief exceptions dispersed throughout). The one chapter that I found helpful was the one on photoshop. It gave a good explanation and overview of the more important and useful tools in photoshop. This is good as most of the material available on photoshop tends to be overwhelming. The chapter in this book is a great place to start. So; if your an already pro-film photographer and your looking to go digital, this book is for you. Otherwise, you'd be better to look elsewhere.

Pros and Cons only in this book, its not about taking better pictures,
This review is from: Professional Digital Portrait Photography (Paperback)
This book is only about the pros and cons of switching from film to digital. The title is VERY MISLEADING, this book is not about shooting better digital portrait photos at all. If your looking for a book to learn how to take better digital portraits this is not it
