if this is a personal pencil sharpener, you are going to love it.Vertical pencil sharpeners allow a much more natural motion for sharpening your pencil. It's actually enjoyable every time you use it. Probably not the best solution for a group pencil sharpener because of the tray capacity which is fine for one or two people.

Great for the Artist,

I bought this because of the auto stop feature which saves my expensive art pencils from getting eaten up to quickly. It is also nice because while I'm in the middle of a project, I can quickly and regularly keep a nice sharp point. This is a great product, recommended to me by my Art professor.

Not one-handed,

I bought this, thinking that with the upright design, I could use it one-handed (handy in the classroom). Not the case. I have to hold the shavings container with one hand and the pencil with the other. If I do not, the shavings container comes just slightly open and the sharpener stops working. In general, I love Panasonic sharpeners, but will go back to the front-loading variety.

I was blown away by this sharpener. Sharpens even very soft graphite pencils (9B) to a fine tip without breaking the graphite or splintering the wood. The auto-stop feature is designed very well. The blades gradually move away from the pencil as the pencil sharpens, protecting the pencil from over-sharpening and, ultimately, breaking. You can use this sharpener with all your expensive art pencils without any concern. Great product.

I ordered to Panasonic pencil sharpeners. I received my shipment promptly and gave one each to two of my daughter's teachers. They love it!!

Buy before it's obsolete,
This review is from: Professional Electric Pencil Sharpener, Vertical Design, Black PANKP150 (Office Product)
This is a serviceable device for sharpening old wooden pencils left over from the 20th Century. I gave it only three stars not because there's anything wrong with it, but because a pencil sharpener is not going to generate the enthusiasm a flat-screen TV might (I like it! I love it!).It has an "auto-stop" feature that prevents over-sharpening. The receptacle for lead and wood shavings is not very big, so it can overflow if you're not careful. Like most units of this type, it is not quiet. It's not noisy like a shredder but it doesn't purr silently either. A device that accepts a vertical feed is better than those that take a frontal poke. Reason: With the frontal-poke unit, you have to keep the space in front of it clear for the occasional pencil poke. The vertical version has no such encumbrance. The vertical-feed model provides a stable base, whereas the frontal-poke sharpener rests on rubber suction cups. As you poke it with your pencil, the action feels wobbly. You might even move the unit slightly as you push the pencil in. In all, the frontal-poke model doesn't offer a satisfying sharpening experience. I'm sure wooden pencils are being phased out like typewriters, so grab one of these while there's still time. |
