This author has a great perspective on professional organizing, and gives great business ideas for getting up and running. Above her ideas, she includes a cd (and printed copies in the book) of all sorts of forms - I was able to pull up the file from the cd, and customize it for my business. I had business cards, letterhead, brochures, news releases, contracts, proposal forms - and so many others that I don't have time to list - but I had all this stuff customized, printed, and ready to go in a very short period of time without searching and designing it all myself. This book is just THE BEST!

I bought this book as a gift for my sister because she is a natural at organizing. Every time she comes to my house, she's trying to organize me! Anyway, I bought this book for her, and she gobbled it up and read it in a day, and said "I LOVE MY BOOK! IT HAS A CD OF FORMS AND EVERYTHING! IT HAS ALL THE INFORMATION I NEED TO GET STARTED." Before I knew it, she had her own business cards and brochures printed up - very professional looking (imagine my surprise when I learned she got them from this book, and just used her computer to make some small changes for her own business!) and now - 3 months later, she has just quit her full time job to be a full-time professional organizer because she has too many projects to limit them to just the weekends and evenings. She is so happy. Thank you to the author for writing such a great and inspiring book. For my sister, it clearly made a huge difference!

This book is an incredible resource for anyone who wants to become a professional organizer. It covers every area - from what services organizers provide to how to charge customers - to how to market your business. The CD included gives forms, documents, templates and even a database for contact management, all using the popular Microsoft Office products. The author is incredibly helpful, and you can even contact her by email from her website, and ask her questions. She will even call you if you'd like, and give you her advice, or help you with forms and documents. This book really doesn't compare to any others out there. The author truly wants to help you achieve success, not just sell her book.

If you have read ANY other material about starting a business, and/or the business of professional organizing, then this book (which is actually a printed Word document in a binder) may be a waste of time and money. It rehashes basic business formation and marketing principles (which are covered in with more depth and accuracy elsewhere) and gives little information on actually doing the job and setting the policies of a professional organizer. The templates are pretty standard (why include the standard fax cover sheet from Microsoft Word?) and not well-designed. If this is your FIRST foray into this area, then fine, but I'd recommend Cyndi Seidler's manual instead, which has more info. about doing a needs assessment.

I should have paid closer attention to the nay-sayers about this guide. It is a replica of Microsoft Word documents. It gives the reader no real strategies on becoming a professional organizer. It does not provide how-to's or ways to clear clutter and fix a room. It was useless to me. Can I re-sale it?

On a good note, it did come it a nice binder which can be recycled.

S. O'Connell's review of this book was not only snippy, but inaccurate. I found the book incredibly helpful! Most of us trying to get into the business of professional organizing have very litte - if any, business background. I had tons of questions about starting my business that the book answered. She gave specific examples of difficult customer situations, explained what to do on an initial consultation and gave a variety of ways you can charge fees for services. The disappointed reviewer indicated that there aren't references to the forms in the book, and that is totally inaccurate! Not only are there references - but each form is numbered, and the author specifically references the form by number, and often - includes a snapshot of the form on the page she is referring to the form on. The author gave contract templates SPECIFIC to organizing (not general "word" documents as S. O'Connell indicated) and was very wonderful to explain business types so the average person could understand it. Granted - if you have a business background - or college education in business and already know the basics, some of this information may be redundant. But in general, I was impressed way past my expectations! This book isnt' designed to tell you how to do your business step by step. It's designed to give you a variety of ideas and how they are successful or not, and let you make the choice yourself based on what you feel is best for you. We don't all fit into one basic template. One more comment about S. O'Connell's mean review...how can you ask for a refund for something you ALREADY READ and USED? That's just wrong. All books are open to interpretation, and some people may not like a book - that doesn't mean they should be able to return it for a refund.Read more ›
