5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible, June 21, 2008
By
This review is from: Professional Portrait Photography: Techniques and Images from Master Photographers (Pro Photo Workshop) (Paperback)
As a big fan of Carl Caylor and having been privileged to spend a week as one of his students at the Texas School of Photography, I'm a bit biased. He is an outstanding photographer, teacher, and one of the most down to earth and big hearted artist I've had the pleasure of meeting in my life. His DVD set is also an extremely valuable instructional aid. As far as the book, these guys are true masters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Portrait Photography At Its Best, May 5, 2008
This review is from: Professional Portrait Photography: Techniques and Images from Master Photographers (Pro Photo Workshop) (Paperback)
Lou Jacobs Jr. investigates the art of portrait photography with ten top photographers in the field. Beth Forester, Chris Nelson and Carl Caylor, to name a few, are interviewed and a diversity of style and technique is uncovered. This book is a rich source of information for one to help create their own standards for portrait photography.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Inspiring Collection, May 18, 2009

This review is from: Professional Portrait Photography: Techniques and Images from Master Photographers (Pro Photo Workshop) (Paperback)
The previous reviewer felt that this book wasn't strong on technique, but I'd have to beg to differ. Reading each of these chapters is like sitting down to a long lunch with the photographer. I guess it's true that you probably won't discuss specific light placement and such . . . but you'll still learn a lot about their creative approach, how they market their work, how they work with clients, and more. Those are all techniques that can make or break you in professional photography.
