My life as a Wrinkle Cream Guinea Pig,

I am not a very fussy person when it comes to beauty. I don't wear makeup most days, but do want to keep from looking like a Char Pei on a bad day before I'm 60.
Because of allergies, I've always been a Neutrogena gal, using their Healthy Skin line for years. I'm currently using the Anti-Wrinkle / SPF 15 with Retinol, which I've been happy with. When the Olay ProX System became available through the Amazon Vine program, I really looked forward to testing an expensive anti-wrinkle system. When the box arrived, I was ready to throw my cheapo Neutrogena tube in the junk drawer and start slathering the high-dollar solution on my wrinkled mug, but then I got a thought, "why not do a side-by-side test?". Literally, the right side of my face would be Neutrogena, the left would be the property of Ms. Olay. I started on May 29, right after taking a `before' photo. So nice to take a close-up makeup-free snap of yourself in bright daylight, such a wonderful way to start the day, but this was for science! Every day (and night) since I've faithfully applied the three Olay products as directed to the left side of my face and neck, and done my usual Neutrogena in the AM and nothing at night on the right. After a month, there is absolutely no discernible difference between the right and left sides of my face; well, besides the differences that were there already. I have the same amount of wrinkles, the same depth, the same age spots, everything. In the interest of science and for +40 ladies everywhere, here are close-up views of my wrinkly un-made-up face for all to see: (check comments for this info) Yes, it is ugly, but for a good cause! In conclusion, I did not have any adverse reaction to the Olay products. All three felt good on my face, never oily or heavy. If I had seen any results at all, I would be happy to continue using them and paying 4x the cost of the Neutrogena Healthy Skin cream. However, without results, I can't see any reason to spend the extra money just for nicer packaging.

Benefits, but no miracles !!,

To give some background, I am a middle aged woman who is showing a little wear: crinkles around the eyes, a "surprise" line on my forehead and those wrinkles between my eyes. I have fair skin, not too dry.
I got the Olay Pro-x Intensive Wrinkle Protocol Kit about a month ago. The company says that this formulation works by making the outer layer of skin act younger by renewing itself more quickly and maintaining the moisture barrier more efficiently. Here's how to use the kit: After washing the face in the morning, apply the 30SPF lotion. Then, on the "deep" wrinkles, like around my eyes and on my forehead, apply the deep wrinkle cream (in the tube). Then apply makeup as usual. I found the lotion to be very moisturizing. I had been using Bare Escentuals powder foundation, but found that I couldn't use it while using the kit because my skin was too moist and the powder "clogged". Instead, I mixed some cream foundation with the lotion and applied it with a makeup sponge. At night, again, after washing, slap on the anti aging cream from the jar, followed by the deep wrinkle cream on the forehead and eyes. Did it make my wrinkles go away? Nope. What it did do was soften their appearance and give my skin a nice dewy look. I liked the SPF in the lotion and the way the deep wrinkle cream smoothed out my crow's feet. I enjoy using the kit and it does make my skin feel and look softer, but it hasn't removed any years (more's the pity!).

Please TEST before using!,

I cannot stress enough that you should test this on a small patch of skin first before using. Especially the tube of anti-wrinkle cream. On my second day of use, I noticed small blistery bumps around my eyes and on my chin. I stopped using the products immediately and washed my face thoroughly, but the skin irritation got worse. I tried calling the toll free number on the box but was never able to reach a live person because their phone system kept disconnecting me. I eventually sent an email and the reply was that if needed I should see my doctor. The blisters got worse, broke open, and it took over a week for my face to completely heal. I was really disappointed, not only in the product but in the customer service from Olay. Even though there is not a warning on the box telling you to test the product before putting it on your face, I really urge everyone to do that. I sure wish I would have!

Seeing is Believing,

Of course I was somewhat skeptic about the idea of a product that will help minimize and reduce wrinkles, but I am a believer now. My husband gave me this kit for my 41st birthday...yes he gave it to me as a present. Any other woman would of sent him to the doghouse but I actually asked for this.
I have tried Avon Anew products but had a bad reaction to it. My face swelled and felt numb. Since then I have been using Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizer Lotion. The allergic reaction with the Avon products made me hesitant to try new products. Olay is now my preferred choice of skin products. The bottles are smaller than I expected but I carefully read the instructions and quickly started using them. To my surprise, a little does go a long ways. The cream glides on smoothly and effortlessly. In the AM I first apply the ProX Deep Wrinkle Treatment to the crows feet near my eyes, the wrinkles on my forehead and smile/laugh lines around my mouth. Then I apply the ProX Age Repair Lotion all over my face and neck. In the PM before bed, I once again apply the ProX Deep Wrinkle Treatment around my eyes, forehead and smile lines, then apply the Wrinkle Smoothing Cream. It leaves such a smooth silk feeling on my face. My husband is always "petting" me now. LOL Just after one week I can see dramatic results. The crows feet are less noticeable and the wrinkles on my forehead are smoothing out. The smile/laugh lines around my mouth have not really changed, but I truly believe with continuous use my face will appear 10 years younger in no time. I have no no adverse reactions to the formulas and they have a clean refreshing scent. My husband made the mistake of purchasing this kit from a well know retail chain and paid full price. Amazon by far offers the Olay products for the best prices around. UPDATE: I t has been over a couple months and I can honestly say I see a dramatic difference. My laugh lines around my mouth, crows feet and wrinkles on my forehead are about 75% less noticeable. My face is younger looking and healthier, which overall gives me better self-esteem about my "real" age.

I haven't had much of a skin-care regimen, and it's starting to show around the eyes, so I was interested to try out this trio of products. The daytime moisturizer is a nice product--I like that it's unscented, it goes on easily, and it appears that the SPF30 rating is good (I've used moisturizers with sunscreen that seemed about as effective as coconut oil in blocking sunburn...) The night cream is the product I use the least--partly because I'm not very diligent about a night routine, but also because it feels a little heavier than I like. But the small tube of wrinkle treatment--ah, that's the one I was really interested in. I have been using it on my two small but deep wrinkles (one vertical, between the eyebrows, and one horizontal, just below it, at the top of the bridge of my nose) and on my much finer laugh lines (wrinkes below the lower eyelid, radiating out and down from the inside corners of my eyes). Hmmm... after a month of use, I don't see much difference in the fine wrinkles, but the deep ones are noticeably improved. Strange, I expected the opposite result, but it's true--those two deep wrinkles are decidedly less visible. I'm pretty pleased with the kit overall--I've been using it a month and there's still plenty left, so take that into consideration when you look at the value for money. I had been using Olay's Definity serum, but I think I like this set of products a little better.

I'm in my early thirties, so I don't have a lot of problems with wrinkles. I have a crease between my eyes from squinting, and mild ruching around my eyes when I smile. I do think using anti-aging products is a good way to keep from going downhill fast. I'm a bit self-conscious about the crease on my forehead, so I was hopeful that this would give me results. I use other Olay products with good success, and am especially fond of the Regenerist line, so I had high expectations. Unfortunately, this product did not work out well for me at all.
Within a couple of hours of applying the deep wrinkle treatment and SPF 30 moisturizer I got red bumps all over my cheeks and chin. The next day the red bumps and turned into little whiteheads. I hoped that I just needed to push through the reaction so I continued to use it for a couple of more days. After about 4 days of using it am and pm as directed my skin was in such bad condition that it looked like I had impetigo. My skin actually hurt. At that point I decided I couldn't use it anymore. After stopping use my skin was almost back to normal with a couple of days. I can't say whether this product gets rid of wrinkles. I can say that it is not for someone with sensitive skin. I also didn't care for the way it felt on my skin. It was really greasy. Even after a couple of hours if I touched my face it felt moist and sticky. This was true of both the SPF moisturizer and the night cream. I don't really want to go to bed with my face feeling sticky.

I used the other brand of ageless intensives products for about six weeks, then the Olay Pro-X Intensive Wrinkle Kit for a month or so. I am in my early sixties and have that sensitive, thin 'Irish' skin that doesn't tan and wrinkles easily.
And after two months or so of using the creams, I do have fewer wrinkles and feel better about my skin. However, to be honest, no one in my life has commented on the improvement, so it may all be wistful thinking! Olay makes five major claims in their PR and I have tried to evaluate those. 1) 'Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.' Both brands do this within reason. I still look my age, but slightly less wrinkled. 2) 'Improves the look of wrinkles around the eyes.' Both brands do this, but some wrinkles remain. 3) 'Reduces length and strength of wrinkles.' Ditto for both. 4) 'Improves overall skin feel.' The Olay products make my skin feel drier; the Other Brand gave me no problems. 5) No prescription needed. Ditto. 6) 'Leaves the skin feeling moisturized without dryness.' Despite the fact that the Olay has an unpleasant greasy feel, it dries my skin. The Other Brand doesn't. Skin type and age are probably big factors in which brand works best for the individual.

Price is good, product works!,
By I agree with the other reviewer, the wrinkle smoothing cream is a bit sticky at first but since I wear it to sleep who cares. In the morning I do notice my skin being a lot smoother and softer. My wrinkles have lessened to a good extend. The day lotion with 30 SPF is a major plus, I hate sticky sunblock, and this one isn't sticky. It absorbs into the skin and I don't even notice I have sunblock on. The eye cream is decent. I would say it's probably the least favorite of mine, I think I'll be shopping around for a different eye cream once I'm done with this. The other two products are keepers though.

I had high hopes for these products but the bottom line for me is so far (4 weeks) I have not noticed any real difference in my wrinkle problem areas and while the day cream is a very effective sunscreen I don't like the way it feels and looks on my face.
The day cream never seems to fully absorb and sits on my face as a greasy shiny layer and as a result is not makeup/foundation friendly. In the heat and humidity it feels uncomfortably heavy and oily. This possibly could be a very good product for those with extremely dry skin. My skin is more combination normal to dry. The night cream does absorb better. The deep wrinkle treatment directions instruct to use the product day and night on problem areas in combination with the other creams but I have found I can not use it with the day cream because it just amplifies the problem I have with the heavy greasy feeling. I have been using the deep wrinkle cream at night on two areas, fine wrinkles around my eyes and deeper wrinkles on my forehead. So far I have not noticed any real difference in the appearance of those wrinkles. I am going to continue with the night cream and deep wrinkle treatment for another 4 weeks and if I have any different results I will update this review. |
