4.0 out of 5 stars Good intro & intermediate information
I agree that 'professional' is a stretch with the title. The material's scope is from beginner to intermediate. Also, because I am working with Windows CE 3 & Visual Tools 3, some of the information is clealy dated (time for the next version of the book). Most of the content of this book is outdated. The content that it does provide is very lacking. I recommend looking elsewhere.

I agree that 'professional' is a stretch with the title. The material's scope is from beginner to intermediate. Also, because I am working with Windows CE 3 & Visual Tools 3, some of the information is clealy dated (time for the next version of the book). However, as an experienced VB developer, new to the windows CE platform, the book was an excellent first step. There are several books on windows CE, but few devoted to VB & CE. The reason is obvious -- VB tools for Windows CE 3 is very limited, and any serious application development will require C++. I recommend this book for VB developers new to the CE platform. Just don't expect to be able to run all the examples as is.

4.0 out of 5 stars Visual Basic Windows CE Programming --- another review, March 13, 2000
This review is from: Professional Visual Basic Windows Ce Programming (Paperback)
I thought the book was very well documented with helpful examples. One of the other reviews was simply put "out of date". Concepts and ideas never go out of date, and this book is the first one with complete examples covering topics which are directed at the type of product it supports. I have not found any other book with the explicit subject matter of VB for CE development as this one. I would suggest this book to anyone who is interested in getting directly into VB-CE development especially ASP/internet access for data. Cheers....!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great intro to VB CE for an experienced VB programmer., October 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Professional Visual Basic Windows Ce Programming (Paperback)
Although some of the information specific to the VB CE Toolkit installation no longer match the actual install steps, I found this book extremely helpful. The discussion of the controls and the examples are easily understood. I recommend this book for any experienced VB programmer who wants to learn VB CE.

5.0 out of 5 stars Straightforward discussion on howto code using VB, July 8, 1999

The author clearly enjoys working with Visual Basic for CE and this come out in the text. There are some limitations to the environment and these are delt with well.

Having met the author at the European TechEd conference I would agree with him that good applications written for Windows CE platforms aren't that hard to do, providing you understand the limitations of the devices. If you are new to this environment, read this book first.

4.0 out of 5 stars First impressions are very favorable, but it seems expensive, October 7, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Professional Visual Basic Windows Ce Programming (Paperback)
I bought this today - the most expensive book I have ever bought! However, it is the only VB book for CE programming so far. It adopts a tutorial approach and takes the reader through four real life examples - source code is available for free download. It also covers correct installation of all the necessary development tools and the undocumented features (!) of the VB CE add-in.

I'll write more when I have worked through the examples. If it leads me in to some lucrative developments it will have been worth the high price.
