Biography

New Orleans is said to be a city where having a party has been elevated from a casual pastime to a way of life. Nobody understood this better than Professor Longhair, one of the pioneers of New Orleans rhythm & blues. His influence can be heard in Fats Domino, Allen Toussaint and Dr. John, among many others. Known for his unique mix of blues, jazz, calypso, ragtime, and zydeco, "Fess" (as he was… Read more in Amazon's Professor Longhair Store

4.0 out of 5 stars For die-hard fans only, September 28, 2000

This review is from: Professor Longhair's Boogie (Audio CD)
Recorded in New Orleans in 1949/50. Sound quality good to excellent. Interesting to hear some of the songs in the raw. However not my favorite 'fess CD. For die hard fans only (like me!) I would recommend Gumbo, Crawfish Fiesta, House Party, and the Anthology all as better places to start unless you are a student of old recordings !
