3.0 out of 5 stars Good product, but..., July 21, 2010

I like this microwave. It works well, has good features. My gripe is one of those maddening little design flaws that makes you pound your head on the wall - or wish you could pound the engineers' heads on the wall.
We have ours mounted above the stove, so the light on the bottom of the microwave functions as the stove light. Lights do burn out, so you would design it for quick and easy bulb changes, right? No. 1) This uses some obscure bulbs I haven't seen before - trip to Home Depot! 2) The mounting is by a Phillips screw that is positioned so that if it falls (and it's screwed in upwardly so it will) it can easily fall behind the stove. And did. But that's not all. 3) The bulbs plug in backward to the front of the stove, so you have to feel with your fingers or use a mirror to push the prongs of the bulbs toward you into the holes that you can't see. All this sounds picky and unimportant, and it is, until your bulbs burn out (ours lasted a year), and then it's a completely unnecessary, stupid irritation. What were they thinking?
Again, it's a good microwave. We love it, except for once in a while when we're going to hate it.

We really like the new touch pad design. Its easy to use. The extra features are being put to use and are nice. The microwave cooks fast and does a great job. Would definitely recommend.

1.0 out of 5 stars Grill assembly broke twice within 1 year, January 22, 2011
This review is from: Profile Spacemaker 1.8 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Microwave - Stainless Steel
The microwave and the vent work great. However, the issue to be aware of is the poorly made/design grill assembly at the top of the microwave. The case is made of plastic even though the cover is stainless steel. The grill opens and closes every time the microwave or the vent is used. The first time I saw this I already suspect this could be problematic given the number of times it opens and closes in a day. Then, 6 months later the plastic pieces in the casing broke, and the grill actually fell over my cooktop. I called GE they sent a replacement grill - great! Installed it and it broke again 4 months later, a week just after 1-year warranty expires. Now, I am at at a point where I'm not sure I should keep buying the spare grill that costs ~$150 or just get a different microwave altogether.

Although this is a nice design from the look that keeps the microwave look really neat. However, I would prefer fewer moving parts, or better build quality on the part that has to move at least 3-4 times a day. Imagine every time the microwave runs, the grill opens up, and when it finishes the grill closes. Using vent is also the same way. It seems trouble is waiting to happen.
