5.0 out of 5 stars NICE MICROWAVE
We really like the new touch pad design. Its easy to use. The extra features are being put to use and are nice. The microwave cooks fast and does a great job. Would definitely recommend.

I like this microwave. It works well, has good features. My gripe is one of those maddening little design flaws that makes you pound your head on the wall - or wish you could pound the engineers' heads on the wall.

We have ours mounted above the stove, so the light on the bottom of the microwave functions as the stove light. Lights do burn out, so you would design it for quick and easy bulb changes, right? No. 1) This uses some obscure bulbs I haven't seen before - trip to Home Depot! 2) The mounting is by a Phillips screw that is positioned so that if it falls (and it's screwed in upwardly so it will) it can easily fall behind the stove. And did. But that's not all. 3) The bulbs plug in backward to the front of the stove, so you have to feel with your fingers or use a mirror to push the prongs of the bulbs toward you into the holes that you can't see. All this sounds picky and unimportant, and it is, until your bulbs burn out (ours lasted a year), and then it's a completely unnecessary, stupid irritation. What were they thinking?
Again, it's a good microwave. We love it, except for once in a while when we're going to hate it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Grill assembly broke twice within 1 year, January 22, 2011
This review is from: Profile Spacemaker 1.8 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Microwave - Stainless Steel
The microwave and the vent work great. However, the issue to be aware of is the poorly made/design grill assembly at the top of the microwave. The case is made of plastic even though the cover is stainless steel. The grill opens and closes every time the microwave or the vent is used. The first time I saw this I already suspect this could be problematic given the number of times it opens and closes in a day. Then, 6 months later the plastic pieces in the casing broke, and the grill actually fell over my cooktop. I called GE they sent a replacement grill - great! Installed it and it broke again 4 months later, a week just after 1-year warranty expires. Now, I am at at a point where I'm not sure I should keep buying the spare grill that costs ~$150 or just get a different microwave altogether.

Although this is a nice design from the look that keeps the microwave look really neat. However, I would prefer fewer moving parts, or better build quality on the part that has to move at least 3-4 times a day. Imagine every time the microwave runs, the grill opens up, and when it finishes the grill closes. Using vent is also the same way. It seems trouble is waiting to happen.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not built to last, November 9, 2011
This review is from: Profile Spacemaker 1.8 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Microwave - Stainless Steel
Avoid GE microwaves. Our GE profile microwave lasted 14 months before it completely died. The control panel is completely dead. These are not cheap microwaves and it's ridiculous that General Electric would release an expensive product line with such inferiour quality. I researched these microwaves after ours died and there are hundreds of similar quality complaints on the net. GE should be ashamed of itself.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid This Product, November 2, 2011

I ignored the negative reviews here and elsewhere and bought a GE Spacesaver microwave oven because it was the only model that fit the way I wanted it to into my kitchen. The unit worked well for two years and then failed catastrophically. Two years is unacceptable lifetime for an electronic product like this under normal, residential use. I will not purchase another GE kitchen appliance again. Pay heed to Amazon reviews of GE microwave ovens.

No only does the product malfunction (automatic fan would not turn off) after 6 weeks of usage, GE refuses to replace it. Instead, they sent a technician over 3 times wasting over 10 hours of both my time and the technicians time before they resolved the issue. This is complete unacceptable business practice. Stay the heck away from GE microwaves if you can help it. Who knows what else can break next. What a joke!

1.0 out of 5 stars FIRE HAZARD DANGEROUS! CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT, January 12, 2011
This review is from: Profile Spacemaker 1.8 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Microwave - Stainless Steel
Ge profile model pvm1870sm1ss, transformer had to be replaced within the first few months, back in 08, On dec 24, Christmase eve the microwave caught fire, thankfully the breaker flipeed and cut the power, but by that time my home was full of noxious smoke, burned by throat and eyes. The kids and I got out ok and I called the fire department. The kids, the dogs, cat, my friend and her son all waited for the fire department in her minivan because it is was so cold out. WE called GE, they put us in touch with their Electric insurance, they had an attorney call us putting us on the spot trying to get a monetary value out of us. Then Chubb insurance called us telling us they worked for Samsung, Thats when it went from bad to worse. The Ge tech verified it was their faulty malfuntioning part a transformer/magnatron. Chubb has been giving us a hard time. Denying food bills since we couldn't cook, denying babysitting because we had to get the kids out of the house while we aired it out and cleaned, denying everything! Please tell everybody you know to gooogle class action law suit against GE and see how many attorneys, class actions, and people have been dealing with this problem. So do you have any advise for how to deal with this mess? GE doesn't care, Samsung doesn't want to hear it, and Chubb doesn't want to pay!

1.0 out of 5 stars Its turning out to be an expensive piece of junk, September 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Profile Spacemaker 1.8 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Microwave - Stainless Steel
This microwave was installed in the first week of March. It died after 3 weeks. Service call to GE, they came in 3 days and repaired it. It died again in April. Repairs done in one day. Died again in June. Repairs done in 1 week. Died again in July. And then again in August. It's not been fun.

When it does work, it is pretty good. I thought GE profile was actually better than regular GE, seems like its just re-badging the same junk.

Cheers

1.0 out of 5 stars Looks good..... that's about it!, September 12, 2011
This review is from: Profile Spacemaker 1.8 Cu. Ft. Over-the-Range Microwave - Stainless Steel
If you are looking for something that looks great and works less than 4 years AFTER purchasing... then buy this, otherwise go elsewhere for another product. For alll the money I spent on this product I could have purchased TWO counter top microwaves and they would still be working. And you can forget about GE doing anything... other than trying to raid your pockets. The Magnatron died after 3.5 years of usage... now we just use it as a night light in the kitchen with a clock. I'm starting to wonder about all my other matching profile appliances..... I knew I should have stuck to either Maytag or Kitchaid!.
