The program relates Borges' profoundly original stories to his personal experience, and attempts to reconcile the public and private images of this major 20th century writer.

"Borges: Profile of a Writer" is an excellent introduction to the writer and his work because, in addition to chronicling the writer's life, as most documentaries do, this film provides short enactments of some of Borges' better-known stories. The unusal style of the documentary--this was filmed pre-Ken Burns', remember!--makes this film suitable for college-age students and adults. Younger students won't get it because the style is non-linear.

excellent movie as whole. borges and some of his best stories' characters become recursive happening.

faithful to the borgesian style, this movie joins fiction, (auto-)biography, story-telling, parable etc. for our delight.

i can imagine some viewers wishing at times borges would speak more of himslef/his views.
