This review is from: Profiles of Women Past & Present: Women's History Monologues for Group Presentations (Volume II) (Paperback)
Profiles of Women Past And Present gives you everything you need to present women's history in the classroom. There are 15 monologues, costumes ideas and even sample flyers, letters and press releases.
I used the book last year with 5th and 6th grade girls. I trained them to present the monologues and they went into individual classrooms. The girls were terrified at first but felt wonderful when the project was finished. The whole school benefits from hearing the monologues and learning about women in history. My students built confidence and poise as they presented the program. The book makes it so easy. I received credit for the project but the book was the true star. I recommend the book for history teachers at all grade levels but expecially 5th, 6th, and junior high. It is an easy way to help girls learn about women's place in history and produce a public speaking experience.

a fabulous way to introduce inspirational women to anyone, May 25, 1998

Since the bios are short and written with unique anecdotes, these monologues are a perfect way to introduce the stories of inspirational women to anyone, children & adults, alike. They can help build young girls' self-esteem and give them the courage to go after their dreams while letting them know that those dreams do not have to be bound by gender. Start reading these stories to your children at bedtime and you'll learn a lot, too!
