1.0 out of 5 stars Old chestnuts revisited January 13, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book contains a few simple, old ideas that have served the B2B professional services world well for decades. Unfortunately, it is written as a teaser to hire someone (presumably the authors) as consultants to share any insights beyond the obvious. If you are a free lance consultant just launching your career, there may be some value in reading this book. If you are a leader of a professional services firm looking for ways to improve your marketing performance, keep looking. Hint: S-Business: Reinventing the Services Organization (2003) has essentially all the information contained in this book and more. The authors consult to consultants as well, but they provide good insight in their book. Sometimes older is better

2.0 out of 5 stars are you serious? August 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Do you remember any case where somebody meticulously, in great detail and structure described something that is pointless? Then this is a case like that. Structured and thorough description of building state-of-art service providing company. With one glitch: it does NOT indicate how to build it at all. Very shallow in thought, as if written from different planet than the action should be happening on. Avoid not to regret your time (and money) devoted to that.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Insight June 28, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book contains some good information presented very poorly. So much is repeated again and again. This small book would be a third the size without the repetition. Also, did the forget to hire an editor or was he/she just out to lunch? They refer to chapter numbers (as in "see chapter 6") but the chapters are not numbered. They are in the table of contents, so you have to keep going back to find out on what page chapter 6 begins. I found the poor editing and the repetition so annoying, that I can only read a little at a time.

A very solid 'how to' guide for aspiring thought leaders from acknowledged experts in their fields. Bruce Rogers recently spoke at a breakfast session we hosted and he pulled extensively from this book. The crowd of senior B2B communications professionals all loved his wit and insights and we received positive feedback for weeks after. If you're looking to grow your firm's reputation as a thought leader or develop a pool of thought leaders inside your firm you should definitely include this book on your reading list.
