Well considered history of Hilton Head,

This review is from: Profits and Politics in Paradise: The Development of Hilton Head Island (Paperback)
A carefully considered review of Hilton Head, SC since its development as a world-leading resort. Danielson's extensively researched, scholarly book discusses several important factors in modern, orchestrated community development. Danielson describes in detail the transition from plantation-driven Hilton Head to a multi-focused community that remains largely dependent on tourism. The competing interests of developers, residents, retirees, tourists, and businesses are well-explained, as are the challenges of rapid growth. It is an excellent handbook for development in environmentally sensitive areas and for 'destination-oriented' developments. I only wish that Danielson had included more maps of both the individual plantations, and more detailed maps of Hilton Head.

This review is from: Profits and Politics in Paradise: The Development of Hilton Head Island (Paperback)
Detailed, revealing and apparently even handed history of the development of Hilton Head Island, the people who made it happen, and "innocent bystanders.". Lots of footnotes and references. Lots of context, "flavor and texture." A must read.
