Light From the East,
By "dembitzer" (Debica, Poland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Profundis (Audio CD)
A new installment in the ongoing series of Tzadik's Radical Jewish Culture features a young Polish quartet of classically trained and versatile musicians who successfully and sensitively draw on Synagogue, Niggun, Balkan, Gypsy, Tango Nuevo and Contemporary Classical styles to create a beautiful music of their own. Energy, great melodies, intricate rhythms and entwining lines of acoustic instruments (2 accordions, bass, violin, clarinet and hand percussion). The CD is well worth the money and is a rare bird in the music of today--full of fine melodies and musicality. After a long spell, now Cracow again is sending the Light to the world. Absolutely recommended!

if that desert island only allowed one CD...,
By Phil (San Diego, CA) (San Diego, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Profundis (Audio CD)
If that legendary desert island only allowed one CD, this would be mine. I stumbled across this in shopping and took a chance on it. All instrumental, in turn subtle, melodic, beautiful, mournful, vibrant; in short, the most moving music I've ever heard.I don't know if this is what klezmer music sounds like or not but I've never found another CD to match this. After discovering this delight I tried several other groups and compilations but nothing came close to the sound of the CKB. I would describe it as having all the best aspects of classical music but without the wearisome bombast of an entire orchestra. In their subsequent CDs the CKB have branched out from this foundation, experimenting here and there, but this remains my favorite of their works. I really can't find the words to describe this album or express how perfect it is.

Brilliant!,

This review is from: Profundis (Audio CD)
This group of four young musicians creates a dynamic blend of traditional songs and original compositions. I keep searching for a good Klezmer group and at last I found one -- they are the best! Brilliant. Emotional. Evocative.
