A Must Read For All Women!,
By Pat Ballard "Queen of Rubenesque Romance Novels" (Nashville, TN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Program (Paperback)
Brilliant! I recommend The Program to every woman who feels insecure about her body because she thinks she weighs too much. In fact, I recommend The Program to every woman! Charlie Lovett has managed to weave romance, intrigue, suspense and mystery into this story while clearly depicting the insecurities of women who don't like their bodies and how far they will go to become what they think (or society tells them) is the "perfect woman."This book kept me intrigued until I finished it! It's almost scary how this author managed to get inside women's heads like he did with this book.

Great Combination,
This review is from: The Program (Paperback)
Loved this book. Couldn't put it down once I started. I initially enjoyed it because of the premise - the idea you could go someplace and get thin instantly. Upon further reading, the intricate story is revealed. I wasn't disappointed with the ending which I was worried would be weak. Highly recommend!

A refreshing twist,

on the idea of celebrating one's individual talents, without worrying about the "ideals" of the day. Too many women go through life with a constant feeling of inadequancy, all because they do not meet society's current definition of "beautiful". Charlie Lovett's novel, with its lively plot and heartfelt characters, reminds us that the beauty of the world lies in people's uniqueness, and true satisfaction in life comes from developing our own individual talents, without worrying about any unrealistic and misguided societal expectations.

A Terrific Read,
This review is from: The Program (Paperback)
Be careful what you wish for. People who wish to trade in their current bodies for a slimmer version shouldread Charlie Lovett's carefully crafted book. This well told tale keeps the reader guessing---often wrongly, about characters and plot. This is a perfect book for beach reading.

Is "perfection" right for you?,
This review is from: The Program (Paperback)
You will not be able to put down Charlie Lovett's compelling murder mystery! Who has not dreamed of being thin "enough"? What if one could reach that elusive goal not by dieting or exercise, but simply by signing a contract and paying a fee? And what if this new, "perfect" body could be obtained, mysteriously, within hours, rather than after months of discipline and hard work? Who would not be tempted to sign up for the program that offers this magical transformation? The Program answers those questions, and more, but with a startling and unpredictable twist. This absorbing book has a convoluted plot deeper than that of most novels or murder mysteries. Through the eyes of an idealistic young female journalist with altruistic intentions of creating a better world for the less fortunate among us, it offers a thought-provoking account of how we see ourselves, as well as how others may see us. It weighs the temptation (and the surprising final cost) of easy results against dreams that can only be fulfilled by hard work. If you have ever said, even in jest, that you would sell your soul to be thin, this book is for you! Alison Tannenbaum

Unbelievable,

This review is from: The Program (Paperback)
This book is awful. Evidently the publisher wants to shore up the psyche of obese women who are subject to society's infatuation with the thin ideal. So we have obvously overweight heroines combined with the "bad guy"THE DEVIL (really!?!) My first problem...no where in the story is a point made about health. Why not have as heroines women who are not 88lb but not 300 either!! Second....the Devil is the villain. And one of his antagonists is an Episcopal priest. And people sleep with one another all over the place. Very strange premise. Very strange book. Skip it. |
