Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Cure your dog of fleas with Novartis Program. Its active ingredient is Lufenuron, an insect development inhibitor belonging to the group of benzoylphenyl-ureas. Lufenuron acts as a chitin synthesis inhibitor. Female fleas feeding on treated animals will produce eggs out of which no larvae will hatch. The interruption of the flea life cycle results in a long-term, very effective flea control on the animal, as well as in the environment. For dogs 46 to 90 pounds. Should be given orally, with food, once per month. Treatment of existing infestations can begin at any time. In cases of severe infestations the use of an adulticide during the first few weeks of the treatment may be necessary. Best used in a prophylactic way. In this case, treatment should start in spring, before the beginning of the flea season, and repeated monthly throughout the flea season. All dogs in a household must be treated in order to prevent the buildup of developing fleas in the environment, thus establishing an infestation. Contains 409.8 milligrams of Lufenuron. Please read all label information on delivery. Includes 6 tablets.

Product Description

Program is a once-a-month flavor tabs for the prevention and control of flea populations in dogs. Recommended for dogs and puppies up to 10-pound in weight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product for long-term flea control!, September 14, 2009
By
The woolgatherer (Pennsylvania, USA) - See all my reviews
I'm now a convert to Program and the overall approach of growth-regulation (as opposed to insecticide) meds when it comes to controlling fleas on our dogs and cats over the long haul. No matter how effective an insecticide product may be, unless it can do something to keep those thousands of flea larvae and pupae from growing into nasty egg-producing adult fleas, the flea population is always going to find a way to survive. By the way, of course you've got to treat the house with a growth regulator, too, but that's not hard to do, and it's a lot safer than bombing with an insecticide. We had a vicious infestation problem this past summer that a combination of Program, Capstar and Martin's I.G. Regulator solved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Program is a MIRACLE!, July 15, 2009

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The dog we have now is a flea magnet! I had never experienced fleas with our previous pets. It all came to a head when I was sitting at my sewing machine one day and felt little bites on my ankles...I looked down and was horrified to see fleas on me. They had infested our home! I became a woman on a mission, I tried every single topical flea treatment on the market and I began vacuuming everything like a maniac. The vets all swore to me that their topical products worked, and one vet even accused me of being a poor housekeeper since the fleas were now in our carpets and furniture. I was mortified! Somehow during the process I had heard of two oral flea med's, Program and Capstar. Since I'd tried everything else without success I was determined to get my hands on these two items but it wasn't easy because most stores and even veterinarians do not carry either one. I finaly found a farm & feed store who carried it (you can order it online but at the time I was desperate and needed them NOW). Program and Capstar work wonderfully by themselves, but for your animal's sake you really should use them together. Capstar kills ALL the fleas within 24 hours...Program stays in your pet's blood stream for one month and renders the fleas sterile so that they give birth to dead eggs. So even if your pet gets fleas again within that month they cannot reproduce, and the flea eggs that fall off the animal onto your carpets and furniture will not hatch. They are each expensive, but well worth the price considering how great they work. I highly recommend each product!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best product I have found for long term flea control with 3 large dogs !, May 18, 2009
By
Fisher man (North Florida) - See all my reviews
Three large dogs makes flea control a challenge in our sandy/grassy yard. First you have to eradicate the fleas in the environment using lawn insecticide and get them off the dogs with flea shampoo or Capstar. Then the PROGRAM keeps any larva fleas from developing into adults and pretty soon any remaining fleas on the ground just sort of fade away. And, as long as you do not have other animals/pets bringing fleas into the yard, you have a good control solution. We let the dogs into the house occasionally and NO Fleas after 12 months now of using PROGRAM. Also, an important point to me is that PROGRAM is very benign, in that it contains no insecticides. The literature says that there is no known overdose of PROGRAM that would harm a human or a dog. However, PROGRAM does not protect against ticks, so the dogs also wear a flea collar.
