2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I'd hoped for
I have heard great reviews about this over the past few years, so thought I'd try it. My vet said it was no good, but I thought aww, since he doesn't sell it. It's not as pricey as other flea products so thought I'd give it a try, since the part of the country I live in seems to be a flea resort.LOL
I did try it and it seemed to work as a fertility drug with...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product for long-term flea control!, September 14, 2009

I'm now a convert to Program and the overall approach of growth-regulation (as opposed to insecticide) meds when it comes to controlling fleas on our dogs and cats over the long haul. No matter how effective an insecticide product may be, unless it can do something to keep those thousands of flea larvae and pupae from growing into nasty egg-producing adult fleas, the flea population is always going to find a way to survive. By the way, of course you've got to treat the house with a growth regulator, too, but that's not hard to do, and it's a lot safer than bombing with an insecticide. We had a vicious infestation problem this past summer that a combination of Program, Capstar and Martin's I.G. Regulator solved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Program is a MIRACLE!, July 15, 2009

The dog we have now is a flea magnet! I had never experienced fleas with our previous pets. It all came to a head when I was sitting at my sewing machine one day and felt little bites on my ankles...I looked down and was horrified to see fleas on me. They had infested our home! I became a woman on a mission, I tried every single topical flea treatment on the market and I began vacuuming everything like a maniac. The vets all swore to me that their topical products worked, and one vet even accused me of being a poor housekeeper since the fleas were now in our carpets and furniture. I was mortified! Somehow during the process I had heard of two oral flea med's, Program and Capstar. Since I'd tried everything else without success I was determined to get my hands on these two items but it wasn't easy because most stores and even veterinarians do not carry either one. I finaly found a farm & feed store who carried it (you can order it online but at the time I was desperate and needed them NOW). Program and Capstar work wonderfully by themselves, but for your animal's sake you really should use them together. Capstar kills ALL the fleas within 24 hours...Program stays in your pet's blood stream for one month and renders the fleas sterile so that they give birth to dead eggs. So even if your pet gets fleas again within that month they cannot reproduce, and the flea eggs that fall off the animal onto your carpets and furniture will not hatch. They are each expensive, but well worth the price considering how great they work. I highly recommend each product!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best product I have found for long term flea control with 3 large dogs !, May 18, 2009
By
Fisher man (North Florida) - See all my reviews
Three large dogs makes flea control a challenge in our sandy/grassy yard. First you have to eradicate the fleas in the environment using lawn insecticide and get them off the dogs with flea shampoo or Capstar. Then the PROGRAM keeps any larva fleas from developing into adults and pretty soon any remaining fleas on the ground just sort of fade away. And, as long as you do not have other animals/pets bringing fleas into the yard, you have a good control solution. We let the dogs into the house occasionally and NO Fleas after 12 months now of using PROGRAM. Also, an important point to me is that PROGRAM is very benign, in that it contains no insecticides. The literature says that there is no known overdose of PROGRAM that would harm a human or a dog. However, PROGRAM does not protect against ticks, so the dogs also wear a flea collar.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I'd hoped for, June 27, 2010

I have heard great reviews about this over the past few years, so thought I'd try it. My vet said it was no good, but I thought aww, since he doesn't sell it. It's not as pricey as other flea products so thought I'd give it a try, since the part of the country I live in seems to be a flea resort.LOL
I did try it and it seemed to work as a fertility drug with fleas.LOL
The package did say you had to use Capstar or another flea killer with it in order to get it under control, which I did, but it certainly didn't do any good, and I went back to my old product that does work, although more expensive.
To me, if you have to use Capstar and 1/2 dozen other products to get Program to work, it's not worth it, and certainly isn't going to save you any money, that's for sure.

5.0 out of 5 stars CHEAP ALTERNATIVE TO COMFORTIS, August 16, 2009

This is a great alternative to expensive flea protection for dogs. Half price of frontline or advantage and not messy, plus dogs love the taste of these pills unlike the huge COMFORTIS pills. Only one thing, Program does not cover or kill ticks....

If ticks are not a major concern, then definitely go with PROGRAM. The vets are just making so much money off products they sell, it's highway robbery..
They want to sell you the most expensive product they carry, so automatically will recommend (Whatever that may be at the time).

5.0 out of 5 stars GOOD PRODUCT - GREAT PRICE, May 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Program for Dogs 46 to 90 pounds (Misc.)
I have been using program for my dogs for years. I shopped around and Amazon had the best price--with the sales tax is was at most even with the next competitor but Amazon is "customer service conscious" and had free shipping. It was a no-brainer. I buy the large dog size and cut them in 4 parts--which gives 4 doses per tablet if your dog is between 11 1/2 pounds and 22 1/2 pounds. This idea was recommended by my vet to help me to get the best value for my dollar. NOTE: PROGRAM DOES NOT KILL FLEAS--IT IS NOT INTENDED TO. IT IS LIKE A BIRTH-CONTROL PILL FOR FLEAS. YOUR DOG MAY be BITTEN BY FLEAS BUT THE FEMALES WILL NOT BE ABLE TO LAY EGGS. I use Program in conjunction with a flea and tick killer. I found the flea and tick killers that last "UP TO" 30 days--don't last 30 days but it would be risky to reapply pesticides before the recommended date. This is really important to me especially when the peak season hits and since fleas can live on other dogs and reproduce indoors all year long, I use Program all year long to give my dogs the best protection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product!!! Great Seller!!!, August 11, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've used this product on my six dogs for years, and the dogs NEVER have fleas. We moved to the country and yet Program still keeps my dogs flea free!!! No topical goo that stinks and attracts dirt and keeps you from wanting to touch your dog because of the oily mess on his back that rubs off on carpet, clothes and furniture. Yuck. The Program pill does exactly what it's supposed to do and we love it at our house. Puppies can take this without any ill side effects as well as a pregnant dog. That says a lot. Especially for a product that really does what it says it will, doesn't cost an arm and a leg and requires no prescription. Just can't beat it.

This seller was quick and reasonable in price and shipping. I recommend them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worked great, October 20, 2007
We tried some of the cheaper products bought at discount stores, but these really did the trick.
Shipping was fast, product was as specified in unopended boxes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Program for cats & dogs, June 15, 2011
This review is from: Program for Dogs 46 to 90 pounds (Misc.)
I was disappointed in this product because it was a capsule . I tried to mix the powder with their food but my cats wouldn't touch it. I tried to force feed the capsule, but that wasn't happening either . I feel I wasted my money. I suppose it would work if I could get it down them.It would have been better IF i had known it was a pill or a capsule first.
