Program is the BEST-- My Cat is Allergic to Advantage,
By
This review is from: Program Tabs 6pk Yellow Dog 21-45 lbs Cat 7-15 lbs (Misc.)
My cat is allergic to Frontline and Advantage, which are topical pesticides that get ingested when the cat grooms itself. He would get a lump on his neck wherever I would apply it, so I stopped using topical insecticide for flea control.
I really like Program. It controls fleas for a month, and I never have a problem with my cat getting sick. I put the medication into a little bowl with tuna juice from a can, mix it up, and he drinks it right away. Even if your cat has a flea infestation, just give them a flea bath and use Program. You can also use Capstar which works faster than anything else, and kills all the fleas on your cat in 5 minutes, but is not long-lasting. The people that give this product a bad review need to realize that if you cat is infested, you need to do something about the active fleas and the eggs. Program is an ovacide that prevents fleas from reproducing so it won't stop an infestation, but it's so much safer for your cat. I'll never use anything else.

Taste like a cat treat. Break 'em in half to get smell going, and all 6 of my cats (the spoiled and the ferals) ate it right up. Works great!

Program Flavor Tabs for Dogs 21-45 Pounds and Cats 7-15 Pounds (6 Tablets)
The fleas were gone in two weeks. This work better than Frontline Plus and K9 Advantix.

Despite the positive reviews and my success with Capstar, I am disappointed in this. It failed to deliver any reduction in fleas as far as I can tell.
One note, I was warned not to buy these online during the summer as apparently the heat can damage the medication during shipping. Perhaps that was the source of the problem? Regardless, it did not deliver.

Isn't effective for a whole month.,

I have three cats and two of them hate the drops that prevent fleas, running and hiding when it's applied or when they smell it. Then they try to lick it off themselves and each other. Program seemed like the solution, but they start scratching fleas again about two weeks after taking the pill. I also have tried the mix-with-food Program liquid, but the two drop-hating cats won't eat enough food at one time to consume all of it and won't finish the food later either, so it isn't effective. My veterinarian doesn't carry Program pills and his assistant said it was because they hadn't been effective. I order flea remedies on line anyway because they cost less than at the vet's office, but even the drops seem less effective after a time. The vet's assistant recommended alternating two brands of the drops on a monthly basis.

There's a good article comparing the flea products: [...]
The condition of the surrounding and pets all need to be considered before choosing the right product that suits your needs. I have a cat and dog. My dog is a flea magnet and the only product that works for him is Revolution and I love the fact that it's a heart worm prevention med also. However I put the cat on Program since she is an indoor cat and I feel more comfortable using this on her because my dog licks my cat but not vice versa. I use the Greenie pill pockets to wrap the tablet and has no problem at all enticing her to eat it. So far this combination works perfect for me. Every animal is different. It takes a little trial and error to find the best product for that animal specifically.

I've used program for years for flea control, and my dogs seem to never have any fleas, even in hot, humid Tulsa. I've tried the topical type flea control products (like Advantage, etc.) and a couple of my dogs had neurological type (at least it appeared this way to me) reactions to it, so I went back to Program. It seems safer, but this is just my lay person's opinion!

Satisfied,
I am happy with the quality and the price of the Program pills. They definitely keep the fleas away. I highly recommend them to anyone with dogs that have flea problems. Also, getting them through Amazon is the cheapest way I could find.

I used Program successfully for years to eliminate having a house full of fleas without any toxic flea-killers and here are my notes...
1. The only reason to use the toxic products on the back of the neck is to kill ticks during tick season. 2. Many cats are traumatized by putting goo on the back of their necks, so it is good to minimize this when possible. 3. Program tabs mixed with dry food enable treating even semi-wild cats and dogs, maybe even raccoons, skunks, foxes, to diminish re-infestation. 4. "Negative" reviewers often do not understand that Program Tabs do not kill existing fleas, but require 30 days to disrupt the life cycle. 5. Program tabs are much safer than any other method. They do not use toxic chemicals, but only a flea hormone that only affects fleas. Before using Program, my house was so full of fleas that I resorted to "flea bombs" or "foggers." After using only Program early and consistently, there were absolutely no fleas. Unfortunately, there is a rising epidemic of Lyme disease, which in addition to hurting animals, can immediately age and cripple a healthy human. Therefore, if your pet goes outdoors, then during tick season, it is necessary to use a back-of-neck version such as Frontline Plus Flea and Tick Control for Cats and Kittens. (Do not use both at once.) I still use Program for in-between tick season, and for semi-wild outdoor animals.

I previously used Advantage to take care of my cat's flea problem, and it worked immediately - but my cat absolutely hated the smell which lingered on her body. She would howl and run off when she saw me approaching with the Advantage vial, and I hate being the villain once a month. So now I've switched to Program. It's kind of a pain mashing the tablet and mixing it up into wet catfood. Also, it takes a couple of days to take effect. But - it does work well, and my cat is very happy. I will definitely buy Program tabs again.
