You can learn more from the manual that comes with the PLC.,

This review is from: Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Tutorial (Paperback)
Basic is right. There is little more than a few wiring diagrams and a few ladder diagrams in this very thin book.
As mentioned in another review - This book DOES NOT show you how to build a PLC from Radio Shack parts; what it shows you is a wiring diagram for a switch box and power supply built from RS parts that can be used WITH the PLC - and poor ones at that. It is my opinion that you will learn more from the manual that comes with the PLC, than what is "taught" in this manual. This author also does not know much about teaching. He starts off with complex setups and programming examples - instead of beginning with a basic understanding of the PLC and its instruction set. I learned nothing from this book - other than not to purchase anything written by this author.

PLC texts,

Excellent text for beginner, shows how to actually build a simple PLC from components from Radio shack. Shows a number of applications and the ladder logic that is used for those applications. It's the best text for beginners although the learner should have a minimum of two years in electrican knowledge.

This book is based on the Allen Bradley PLC system; certainly a very popular PLC in the USA. It is a great book for use as an introduction to the relationships of the the ladder diagram to the PLC program, as well as linking the program to real world process that it will control.
