More About the Author

What to say? How about "I get a kick out of Dilbert and more often than not can relate to Dilbert." Does that make me a tech nerd? Sure, but I also like to do other things like visual arts and paint pictures in a surrealist style. As much of a tech nut I am I like my art done in a traditional manner.

With respect to tech, my education is Mechanical Engineering specializing in robotics, parallel computing, and industrial automation. There actually was a time when I could calculate the trajectory of a five axis robot, sigh! I have always been fond of writing software and in grade 10 wrote my first major program that was to become an ISAM database using Waterloo Basic on a Commodore Pet! My main computing interests lie in Software Engineering and the Internet.

I blog at http://ablog.apress.com and http://www.devspace.com

We are planning a major B2B enterprise and, when we bought this book, we were looking for expert guidance on use of Windows technology for distributed, network applications (DNA). The book met our needs extremely well.

This book is intended for senior programmers and systems architects. It requires significant prior programming experience and a willingness to deal with a high levels of abstraction. (You will sometime think that you are reading a college textbook.) The book uses a real-life development project as a theme and always returns to more practical matters after explaining the theoretical underpinnings.

This is not a tutorial for installing Microsoft tools. There are lots of Sequence Diagrams and other architectural diagrams but few screen shots. If you study this book and understand it well, you are the type, like the author, who is invited to speak at seminars. I have not yet achieved that level of understanding, but the light already has gone on for me in several key areas.

WOW, what a terrible book! Who needs this book? High level non-technical management or somebody who want to take a part in party discussion about Windows 2000 DNA? This is not a book for the developers. Not even for the beginners. Just a few very sketchy information's about each part of Win2K DNA and that's it. Go look for something more serious!

From design to debugging and everything in between. This is an excellent and practical resource, especially for the corporate and departmental developers. Provides lots of insight and tips on how to design and build custom DNA apps.
