From the Back Cover

A practical introduction to multimedia programming using the Java Media Framework With the Java Media Framework, Internet developers no longer have to rely on plug-ins to add multimedia to their applets and applications. Using the new JMF API, you can build sophisticated multimedia web applets and cross-platform applications that support the whole gamut of cutting-edge multimedia features, including caching, synchronization, and streaming video. Coauthored by members of Intel's Java Media Framework development team, this book shows you how to set up a JMF development environment, how to choose the development toolkit that's right for you, and how to set up the SDK. With the help of numerous working examples-including three complete quick-start web applets and a video JavaBean-you will learn basic and advanced multimedia Java programming. An extensive annotated reference to the Java Media Player API provides programmers with an invaluable guide to the classes and interfaces of JMF. The CD-ROM supplies you with:

3.0 out of 5 stars Less introduction on RTP programming, November 9, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Programming with the Java Media Framework (SUG) (Paperback)
I am a programmer in JAVA , I found there is too little document about RTP in JMF, and the book also doesn't include much information about it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not much about JMF apart from the Java Media Player, February 20, 2000

This review is from: Programming with the Java Media Framework (SUG) (Paperback)
The name of the book suggested a complete guide to the JMF, but in fact it's a book about the Java Media Player ONLY. It contains almost nothing about the very important media broasdcasting and conferencing part of the JML. It's an disappointment to me. Well, to be fair, it could be a pretty good book for developers who want to use the Media Player part only.

5.0 out of 5 stars I liked it, July 7, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Programming with the Java Media Framework (SUG) (Paperback)
I nearly did not buy this book because of the previous negative comments. However, I just finished chapter three and I've found it to be very user friendly.
I've only been working with Java for about ten months now, and so this book is right about at my level.
I'm also reading Gordon and Talley's JMF book; and that one seems to be a bit more advanced, but also good.

If you are a Java guru, then this book may be a bit too easy for you.
But if you are like me, an undergraduate Computer Science student, then this book should be about right for you.

If you have little or no experience with Java at all then this book will be a bit too tough for you.
