Poor quality book,

This introductory book does not worth its price at all. A CD-ROM examples does not work, long file names not supported. Many bugs on the printed pages. As an intoductory book with so many bugs does not make beginner's life easier. Today it is outdated so hopefully not on stock.

This book presents topics in an unorganized manner. The information presented is not very detailed either. The lack of details makes it not appropriate for beginners and the poor orgainization makes it useless for experienced developers. Highly recommend avoiding this book.

This is a good book to begin with. It, with Sun's online information will get you well on your way started. Unfortunatly, there does not seem to be a newer edition availible so the CD ROM examples do not work. The writing is very good for a computer book and the is plenty of good background information all Java programmers need to know. Also, it tells you how to get the software. If you factor in the price, then this book is a must buy
