4.0 out of 5 stars Is it really a good idea to "unleash" programmers? ;), January 10, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Programming Microsoft Windows 2000 Unleashed (Paperback)
I'm not sure whether or not it "unleashed" Win2k for me, but it was a good technical manual. It provides a lot of in depth information regarding programming in a COM+ environment. The interface descriptions are This book has a heavy C++ focus in all aspects, so make sure that's what you are looking for. It's also more of a reference for topics than a "how-to". If you are looking for a C++ reference book on how to program some of the new services in Win2k, then this is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for..., September 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Programming Microsoft Windows 2000 Unleashed (Paperback)
This book is exactly what I was looking for - all meat and no potatoes. Tons of example code on the CD where it belongs, and not page after page of wasted fluff like those MS press books. I put the MSMQ example to work right off the bat - thanks.

1.0 out of 5 stars Needs an editor, May 17, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Programming Microsoft Windows 2000 Unleashed (Paperback)
This is not a review on the technical merits of the book, it is a review of the book's readability. I gave it the lowest score possible. It may be excellent technically, I'm not in a position to judge, as it is way over my head. I hoped only to get an overview of the Windows programming topics it covers, and I was very disappointed because of the readability. The book sorely needs an editor. Statements like this abound:

"Components. DHTML, scripting, and most other things on the client would not be possible without components. Not much more can be said, because most has been said."
