Based on input from someone who just got a job at a large pharma in Southern California, the material in the book is DIRECTLY relevant to programming and reporting in the industry. Future versions could be a bit more detailed, but again, as an overview it is excellent.

It's a very good book for someone who would want to know and learn SAS programming skills applied in clinical trials analysis. I have already recommended this book to my friends and colleagues in Pharmaceutical industry and they all seem to be in love with this book.

It is not easy to explain easy things easily, but this author is different. He knows how to say more in few words. I liked this book too much. It is easy to read, easy to understand, and easy to follow. Wish we had more writers like him.

Not being really familiar with the use of SAS in Pharma, this book was a excellent introduction.

If you are a CRA, CRC or anyone who is doing clinical trials using SAS, this is a good book to read.

The only reason I initially purchased this book is because I knew Jack from Duke Clinical Research Institute and I was curious. I am extremely pleased with this book! Even though the book is designed for an entry-level programmer, I learned a couple of new tricks myself and lent it to some of my employees. Jack introduces the pharmaceutical 'lingo' along with industry regulations. In addition, he explains how and why one would want to make their code readable. It is also a great reference for programmers that have not done something for awhile, like SAS/GRAPH.

He also discusses the data types and structures we encounter, various methods of importing and exporting data, baseline and change-from-baseline calculations, medical dictionaries, how to create visit windows, how to handle 'dirty' data, LOCF, graphs, ways to create tables using SAS, lab-shift tables, and much more.

This is one of the rare SAS books I have encountered that are directly applicable to the job. With his examples, it will save programmers quite bit of time!

Jack Shostak has done a wonderful job. The content, the language, the examples are exceptional.

Truly a gem of a book.

Just love the way this book is written! A must for every SAS user working in the Clinical Trials / Pharma industry!!!
