Text and examples full of typos, omissions and assumptions. Examples are impossible to load. Spent valuable time trying to resolve errors in examples. If you haven't bought it, don't! Author owes everyone that bought it a follow-up with the corrections.

This book is outstanding. At explaining the VisualAge for Java product. Many of the other reviews in my professional opinion are completely missing the point. One person said the product does not match the book this is totally false, perhaps that person should get the correct version of his software "DERR". It may not appeal to UNIX hackers as it does not get into techy geeky stuff. It is not a Java reference and is not meant to be. This book explains by example a nice way to explain things additionally I highly recommend the VisualAge for Java product.

There are many better books if you want to learn Java. I wanted a "handbook" for VisualAge. It provide the fundamentals that can be gotten online. I returned it.

The one-line summary says it all. Do not buy this one. A much better book is Developing JavaBeans Using VisualAge for Java, by Nilsson and Jakab.

You can not even load the examples if you have an early copy. This problem has been corrected in later copies.

Good explanations, but faulty, incomplete examples!,

This book does a good job in explaining the special approach of programming with Visual Age for Java. This should help the reader to use Beanbox and Visual Composition Editor better. However, throughout the book gives the impression of having been scribbeld together in a great hurry. The examples are full of typos and the reader has to conclude from the context, that some steps are missing altogether. I'm sure, nobody has tested, whether the step-by-step-descriptions of the examples in the book really enable to get the examples running. My recommendation: Wait for an enhanced second edition.

Not the book to use to learn Java,

This review is from: Programming With Visualage for Java (Visualage Series) (Paperback)
I have tought myself multiple programming languages by using teach yourself books and this book has got to be, without question, the worse book I have had the displeasure to have to use. It is full of mistakes, typos and the book programming lessons do not agree with the examples on the CD. Don't bother buying this one. I chucked mine in the trash and chalk up the expense to the only thing I was able to learn from it is the author needs to pull it off the market and apologize to anyone who had to read it.
