A Triumph in Many Voices,
By
This review is from: In Progress (Audio CD)
As a longtime fan, the greatest pleasure of this album is the sound of Robin's many voices--snarling punk, guitar goddess, and lyric poet, among others--singing back at each other. This is not a piece of work for people who like their musicians to do the same thing over and over again. The stylistic development that takes less versatile performers three or four CD's to achieve takes Robin three or four songs. This is possible in part because she honors, but isn't bound by, her eclectic influences. As I listen to IN PROGRESS, I think of 60's art-folk, Elvis Costello, Ziggy Stardust, and Aimee Mann, but Robin is no retread--she's someone you should hear for yourself. So when's the *next* triumph coming out?

I have known Robin Renee since the 1980s when we were at Rutgers University and I have anxiously awaited a CD release from her. I have always thought of her as talented and this CD proves my point. My CD arrived this weekend and I immediately listened to it and was taken in by the rythms and the incredible voice. Anyone interested in something smooth, sexy and a bit different from all the many bubblegum pop that is flooding the market today absolutely must listen to this CD.Having known Robin for many years I didn't want to be prejudiced so I had a friend whose musical taste differs from mine listen as well. He loved it! I look forward to future recordings by this vibrant, deeply talented and soulful woman. |
