Book Description

0807729116 978-0807729113 June 1, 1988
As learners with special educational, developmental, and behavioural needs are increasingly integrated into the community, it is essential that appropriate and dignified ways of responding to their needs are found. This book advocates and explores the use of alternative, nonaversive intervention procedures, demonstrating through case histories how appropriate methods can yield positive results, even for those with the most challenging behavioural problems. It will be of exceptional value to professionals in the field, as a resource for program administrators, residential care providers, rehabilitation counsellors, and parents, and as a text for preservice personnel.

I found Progress Without Punishment to be a useful, usable guide to behavioral strategies in the classroom. My copy is nearly worn out from frequent use. I would recommend this book to anyone seeking a guide to implementation of positive reinforcement in the classroom.

5.0 out of 5 stars Usable resource, June 2, 2004
This review is from: Progress Without Punishment: Effective Approaches for Learners With Behavior Problems (Special Education Series) (Paperback)
I am the behavior intervention coordinator for a coop that serves several school districts. This book provides a good usable overview, in common language, to some thechnically sound nonaversive bahavioral intervention strategies. I particularly recomend this book to classroom teachers and other direct service providers. For consultants and psychologists or other specialists doing more detailed assessments and support plans and want a more complete discussion I would recommend "Alternatives to Punishment" by the same authors. It generally covers the same material with more depth and technical language.

Book looks interesting. Shipper was quick to send my "acceptable" copy which had underlining exactly as described but is no big deal. I got a great price because of the less than perfect condition.
