Tall and narrow, this steamer is not only ideal for cooking asparagus, it's also great for other long vegetables like corn on the cob and carrots and for steaming clams and boiling eggs. A sturdy, stainless-steel basket fits inside and has a handle to lift it from the pot and feet to keep it stable on a counter. With a 3-1/2-quart capacity, the steamer also can be used as a small stockpot. It measures 8-1/4 inches deep, ample for standing asparagus spears upright and boiling their tough bottom ends while steaming their tender tips for uniform cooking. The pot and lid are made of 18/10 stainless steel polished to a mirror-finish, and the pot's hollow handles stay cool on the stovetop. I bought this asparagus steamer a couple of years ago and was able to use it only a few times because the basket and the bottom of the steamer rusted right away. I have several stainless steel pots and none of them rusted...they are not supposed to. I was definitely not happy with the product!

Although the Steamer was advertised as Stainless Steel. I found out after the second use that the basket, that holds the food is not. It showed rust at several of the soldered points. This was very disapointing. So now, I just have an extra pot.

I thought for a long time an asparagus steamer was very indulgent, but finally purchased this, and am glad I did. It really does make a difference.
Haven't had any of the rusting mentioned by other reviewers, maybe just needs to be dried right away?
