4.0 out of 5 stars Handy, but this isn't the only set you will need
This is a good value at the price. The smallest bowls are great for lining up your ingredients as you bake. This practice is one I learned in school and is essential to trouble-free and efficient baking. I guess I missed the word "mini" in the description. These bowls are very very small. Nice--but small. I have no idea what one does with bowls this small.

4.0 out of 5 stars Handy, but this isn't the only set you will need, February 22, 2001

This is a good value at the price. The smallest bowls are great for lining up your ingredients as you bake. This practice is one I learned in school and is essential to trouble-free and efficient baking. If you line up your ingredients in bowls (and I put them all on a big tray) you won't be forgetting that baking powder, pinch of salt or 1/2 cup of sugar. The largest bowl is a handy mixing size, but for bread baking you will need a larger steel bowl than this. But at the price, you can get two of these sets for lining up those ingredients if you bake a lot. Handier than custard cups for the purpose, as you get different sized bowls.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous mixing bowls!, June 16, 2000

I use these bowls all the time--for cooking and serving. They are fabulous for holding ingredients before adding them to a recipe or for pre-mixing dry ingredients. Also, the bowls are sleek and attractive enough that I can use them as serving dishes on the table for small salads and condiments. They nestle easily for convenient storage. The two smallest bowls are actually too small for any practical mixing, but they are great for condiments.

5.0 out of 5 stars Handy little bowls, January 5, 2001
By A Customer

I got so many compliments on these bowls that I have bought sets for all of my friends and family. At first I was unhappily surprised by how small the smallest bowls were, but they turned out to be the perfect size for holding the kosher salt on the counter, or the lemon rind that needed to be added at the end of a recipe.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy to hold, pretty to look at...so what's a little rust?, March 19, 2004
By A Customer

If I could award 4++ stars I would. These bowls are nice to look at with their shiny gleam. They feel sturdy and heavy in your hand. They help to organize your ingredients and make you feel like a "real" cook. I wouldn't mind having another set actually. I just could not award 5 stars because the construction on my large bowl is such that the lip collects a small amount of water and before I learned how to avoid that, I had to wipe a little rust along the lip edge. I've since learned that if I stick the bowls in the dishwasher in such a way that they sit vertical in the rack (so that all water drains down) it drains any residual water left inside the lip. So no water in the lip = no rust whatsoever. Also, same as another reviewer experienced, I was surprised (and a little disappointed) at how small the bowls are. They don't look that "Mini" in the picture (did they just recently add the "Mini" part to the description??). I've since let go of that and find that in my small apartment kitchen, it actually works to my advantage because they are easily stowed. I've had my bowls since June 2003. They still come out of the dishwasher shiny albeit a little scratched inside (darn wire whisk!). In my opinion these bowls are not 100% perfect but they come pretty close for what they are!

These bowls are not large enough for most of my mixing, but they go a long way toward helping me to be neat and organized in my cooking.

I usually use these bowls for holding chopped meats and vegetables while cooking: the onions and peppers in the big one, chicken in the next smaller, etc... The smaller two bowls do not come in handy as often, but I often use one to crush garlic into or to measure my dried spices into so they will be ready to drop into a recipe when I need them. The smallest bowl holds about a tablespoon and is my least frequently used bowl.

They can be dish-washed or hand-washed quite easily, so I don't resent the extra dishes this dirties.

They are also quite useful on the table. They don't make a fancy presentation, but they have stayed shiny and free of dings and dents. The selection of sizes means I can usually find one that fits my quantity of dip or sauce. I've used the largest one to serve rice. I usually use at least a few of them when serving a variety of toppings for tacos.

I really found these to be a must have with baking. They are small, but you can measure out all of your ingredients in advance. This saves alot of time!

Highly recommended. These bowls are well made and much heavier than other comparable small stainless bowls. Made in India.
