Great Rock Intro,
By Chuck R. (Washington, DC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Progressive Rock Guitar Technique (Paperback)
This book introduced me to slides, bends, hammers, pull-offs, and bar chords. When I first reached this level the book was long enough at the time for me to handle. This is excellent for the beginner. To get deeper into the techniques, I recomend "Progressive Blues Guitar Method" by Peter Gelling and "Progressive Heavy Metal Guitar Technique" by Rod Ling. The Pregressive books are meant to be sections of a larger course. This book is book 2 of Progressive Rock Guitar Method/Technique/&Licks.

weakest book of progressive series,

The Progressive Guitar series is amazing, specially the books written by Petter Gelling. This one is written by someone else, and it is a complete failure. My first complaint is that most of the tracks aren't rock, but slow ballads, very bluesy. Well, the Progressive Series has its own blues instruction books, so why put it in the rock book? Very displeased here. More problems: the guitar tracks sound awful. Either the guy can't play or he wasn't in the mood to create something worth listining. Don't tell me that the book is for beginners; there is a lot of techniques, riffs and licks that are more interesting and attainable for the beginner than the lousy ones in the book. Third, the book is short, really, but that wouldn't be so bad if it actually had some good techniques and tunes. I was going to buy "rock licks" and "rock solos' from this same series, but they are both written by the same guy who wrote this one. So I decide to save my money and look for rock instruction somewhere else. This is the first book of the Progressive series that let me down. And it was a HUGE let down.

Good Book,

Challenging, yet attainable. Book is well written and the balance of riffs and rhythm guitar is good. Not for absolute beginners as it begins with barre chords. Good for introducing lead guitar to rhythm players.

TOO SHORT!,

Almost like "Rock Guitar Method: with CD": the book is simple to understand, the songs are nice. But the problem remains the same: there are too few exercises and songs!!!
