A perfect cutting board?,
By
This review is from: Progressive International 11-Inch by 15-Inch Counter Edge Cutting Board with Collapsible Scrap Bin (Kitchen)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
You would think something a simple as a cutting board would have been perfected years ago and there wouldn't be much room for improvement. But it seems as though the only difference with most out there is just the material and size. This board has pretty much nailed every criteria that I want out of a cutting board. It's made out of a good hard plastic that hasn't shown any sign of wearing out from cutting with sharp knives. The whole product looks and feels very durable. There is enough texture so that items don't slide off, but not so much that food gets stuck in there. This makes it quite easy to clean. The bottom is also a non-slip surface so it stays on the counter. And you can't forget about the collapsible scrap bin. This is surprisingly handy. It's adjustable in size and even removable for cleaning and storage. Other than that there really isn't much to say, other than to answer the question in review title. Which is, Yes, this is about as perfect as it gets for a cutting board. I wouldn't change a thing. Now I'll be purchasing another one and tossing the lesser cutting boards I've been forced to use over the years. :)

Decent cutting board, but why the bin?,

This review is from: Progressive International 11-Inch by 15-Inch Counter Edge Cutting Board with Collapsible Scrap Bin (Kitchen)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This cutting board is pretty good, but I'm still a bit baffled by the inclusion of the scrap bin. If I'm using a cutting board, I usually just slide the scraps into the sink to be eaten by the garbage disposal. Or into the garbage if they can't go down the disposal. With the scrap bin, I'd be sliding stuff into the bin, then emptying it into one of those two places anyway. It just seems like an extra, unnecessary step to me. I suppose it could be handy for people who don't have a garbage disposal, though. It just seems gimmicky to me. The cutting board itself is nice. My only complaint is that there are only rubber feet on two corners of it; the two corners that are furthest from the bin. My personal experience is that the cutting board slides around a bit on the counter because two of the corners don't have rubber feet. I find myself having to steady the cutting board with my hand, or push down hard while I'm cutting so the board doesn't slip. How much could it have cost to put two more rubber feet on this thing? Overall, it's OK. But the bin still seems like a gimmick to me.

A nice cutting board, though the bin isn't necessary,

This is certainly the most unusual cutting board ever seen. Rather than being just a typical plastic cutting board, one of the long edges has a collapsing scrap bin that extends the length of the board. The idea is that you set up the cutting board at the edge of a counter. The scrap bin is opened out and hung over the edge of the counter, then pushed up to sit firmly along the edge of the counter. You do your cutting, remove your ingredients, and then you can sweep the excess into the bin for disposal. At least, that's the idea. How does it work out in practical use/First, let's mention that the cutting board itself is a nice large size, thick enough to be stable, and with a very slightly pebbly surface to prevent potentially dangerous slippage of ingredients. So far, so good. The idea of having another element (the edge of the bin) firmly against the counter edge adds even more stability. If you're used to working close to your cutting board, the bin can at least slightly get in the way. But the problem comes when you're ready to remove the chopped ingredients. Then the open bin can be a nuisance. Often, you'll want to pick up the whole board and slide the ingredients into a bowl, a pan, etc. The bin will definitely be in the way, and if it has some scraps in it already, you can end up with an unintended mess. You do have the option of removing the bin before picking up the board, but this is still more nuisance. I give this four stars because fundamentally it's a good cutting board. I'd say leave the bin collapsed (or don't even install it in the first place) and just make use of the board as-is. It will never equal a heavy wooden board, but it is quite good enough. The bin feature is in the end not necessary.
