4.0 out of 5 stars Useful, but needs a little TLC
When my original Progressive International Onion Chopper broke, I replaced it with another Progressive for several reasons: First, I prefer the chopping container to the more expensive Alligator's (I've had one; it also broke) upward chop, which scatters the chopped food all over the countertop. Second, until someone decides to use stainless steel or industrial grade...

1.0 out of 5 stars Worked great ... ONCE ... then broke
The second time I used mine the bottom part broke by the feet. The clear plastic shattered. It was with a small onion. A great idea, but a bit expensive for chopping only 2 onions.

2.0 out of 5 stars Onion Chopper Review, November 13, 2006

Good thought, but when you put an onion on the metal crossblades and try to push down on the top handle thing it is really hard to do and the cutting mechinism doesn't work well. It seems to be sharp but does not cut the onion easily.I purchased this chopper for my mom who is 70 and she could not chop an onion with it. My kitchen aid chopper does a much better job as does my black and decker electric chopper and they are dishwasher safe also. I would not recommend it at all. There are other choices out there for good deals.

When my original Progressive International Onion Chopper broke, I replaced it with another Progressive for several reasons: First, I prefer the chopping container to the more expensive Alligator's (I've had one; it also broke) upward chop, which scatters the chopped food all over the countertop. Second, until someone decides to use stainless steel or industrial grade plastic for the "ears" on the chopper, breakage will continue to be an issue with any chopper. However, care in choosing the vegetables to chop and sizing the chunks so as not to exceed the size of the grid will prolong its life considerably. Trying to bully it into chopping too big or too hard things will obviously break it.

Third, my choice to replace my original Progressive with another of the same brand was largely determined by the price of competing choppers. Amazon's price plus shipping costs totaled much less than price alone for other brands. Also, the Progressive offers a replacement guarantee. Those reviewers who are so aggressive about their dislike for this product are probably also aggressive in their chopping behavior. Lighten up! The world will treat you more gently as you do.

1.0 out of 5 stars OMG it SUCKS!, November 5, 2006
I saw the video at Bed, Bath and Beyond and was excited because this item was supposed to be able to chop a tomato and any other fruit or veggie...To chop an onion using the Onion Chopper I had to use extreme force - But it worked. The tomato is another story. The Onion Chopper smashed a firm tomato paper thin excreting only the juice of the tomato. YUCK! Don't buy it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Broke after three uses, August 25, 2006

It's a good idea but maybe I got one that was shoddily assembled. While chopping an onion, the green plate kept getting shoved into the bottom section, and finally, the metal got pushed loose from its moorings in the plastic.

I wanted to have an onion cutter that would make my life easier. after buying this i found that it was tough to use. I had to apply all my body weight to cut onion. 2nd day , it broke.
It wouldn't cut even small pieces of white onion when they are little slimy.
It wouldn't cut tomatoes or bell paper , as written in one of the reviews
Don't waste your money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Piece of junk, August 28, 2006
This review is from: Progressive International Onion Chopper (Kitchen)
I don't understand how some of them gave a rating of 5.
Mine broke on the very first day of use.

Probably, it would work fine with butter or baked potatoes but definitely not with onions.

The second time I used this the clear bottom broke near the foot, apparently from the pressure. It was with a small onion. THis is a badly engineered product and a bit exensive for chopping only two onions during the life of the product.
