Super useful kitchen prep tool!,
By
This review is from: Progressive International GPC-4000 Fruit and Vegetable Chopper (Kitchen)
While this product seems to scream "As seen on TV!", it really is quite useful.
This week, I used this product to prepare the following: Sun: Pizza toppings (olives, mushrooms, peppers, onions) Mon: Soup (celery, onions, carrots) Tue: Salsa (tomatoes, onions, peppers) Tue: Spanish rice ( onions, celery, peppers, tomatoes) Wed: Pad thai (broccoli, peppers, onions) Thur: Stuffed peppers (onions, zucchini, peppers, mushrooms) Everyday: Salad (apples, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, hardboiled egg) Fri: Apple cake (apples) Sat: Oatmeal (apples) The chopper is a little more work to clean than a knife, but MUCH faster and still easy to clean with the included cleaning comb. (don't lose it) Cleaning is little more than rinsing usually. I run it through the dishwasher every few days. If you don't need to prep a lot of ingredients like I listed or you don't really care if your items are minced/ diced/ sliced into identical shapes, then you don't need this. However, if you do a lot of chopping/ mincing/ slicing and you like it when your finished pieces are all identical (I do!), then this chopper can not be beat. It is very durable but requires a fairly strong push. My children can't push through the same items that I can, but if I take out half the items, then they too enjoy seeing the neatly chopped pieces. Most amazing kitchen time saver EVER,

I bought one of these choppers for myself (4 blade variety vs. the one blade onion chopper) by Progressive......it is totally an amazing product; you can chop multipe items in one fell-swoop of the lid, it falls into the ice-tray type bin below and you add the next item. You can chop a whole onion in one movement, a whole tomato, etc. using proper blades for the item. Making a stew or spaghetti sauce or other multi-veggie item is instantaneous. I love this product. Am giving it for Christmas gifts.

I work full time, am a full time mom and have a husband to take care of, but still cook every night. This has cut my prep time down to seconds. You wash your vegetables, place them on the blade, pull the handle down and tada..magic sliced, diced vegetables. It is very sturdy, easy to clean and now my best friend. I highly suggest this item!

To respond to a few other reviews, first, I don't try to push on top to chop, I make a fist and pop it down (on the side of my fist, not a punch like you are punching someone in the face). It has worked every time.
Second, as for cleaning the white top, if you keep it submerged in water and use the cleaning tool, the top cleans easily (I pull the tool in a couple of different directions to get everything out. Keeping the top submerged while cleaning is the trick. I also have the onion chopper for a smaller dice, and it works just as well. Hope this helps.

My friend and neighbor had one of these and when she saw me making ceviche, cutting up the tomatoes, onions, avacado and banana pepper by hand, she lent me hers. They were selling them in Walgreens for a while, but by the time I went to buy one they had replaced them with the slap chop. I had one of those and it's not as good as this. You have to cut the tomatoes in half or quarter them before closing the lid and you do have to slam it fast and hard, but once you get in the grove of slamming, it's kind of fun. I love making ceviche because it's so healthy, but I didn't make it very often because of all the cutting involved. I've made it twice this week and I have everything in the fridge to make it again, only because I have this chopper now. It's making it easier for me to eat healthier and I love the time that it saves in the kitchen. It's hard to clean the blades, but I found that if you flip the blade over as soon as your done using it and spray it with the hand held sprayer, it will get the skins off from tomatoes and onions that have wrapped around the blades quite easily.

I have had this chopper for over a year now and just love it! In the summer it makes quick work of salads and ceviche, in the winter it's great for veggie prep in soups and stews. There is a very slight learning curve when starting to use it...applying the right pressure, quick blows work but slow pressing will squash any soft veggies. I find that you have to ensure that the veggie fits within the size of the grate and if not, I cut it to size. For summer salads I cut my plum tomatoes in half and then put on a half, cut side down on the grate and get the most perfect little cubes for my salads.
As soon as I'm finished I run in under warm water with the attached comb and have never had a problem. I find I don't need to put it in the dishwasher, but I sometimes do anyway just to sterilize it. This not only cuts prep time to a fraction, but the uniform pieces look very professional in it's presentation. I have bought the other two sizes as well, the smaller grate I use for finely chopped peppers and onions and the smallest for garlic that you want minced, not pressed. If you like egg salad, chop your eggs, onion, celery and whatever else you like in it and stir in the mayo for a salad in 60 seconds! You don't even have to empty between chopping (unless of course your using the veggies for different dishes). The storage case is handy and keeps everything organized and easy to find. Pay attention to the blades that say soft fruits and veggies only...I think this is why some people wrote negative reviews...they really need to read the directions...bet they are mostly guys ;) Addendum: It's been nearly two years and it still works like new, I still love it, still easy to clean and I haven't lost or broken any parts...I was sure by now I would lose the comb but because of the case, I still have it. On a slow week I'll use it twice in a week, on a busy week, several time during the day. I have more recently been using it for fruit...apples, melons, pineapple...and it is the best for strawberries. I have the hardest time using it for yams and turnips but still use it...just requires a little more muscle and no stacking of slices. Summer salads are a breeze and what would take me an hour for a large bowl or two, now takes minutes. I've learned never to leave a cut end of a juicy fruit or veggie facing you...it will squirt juices on you...instead if possible I put the cut side down or face it away from me. I still use the other two smaller units but not as often as this one...it is truely a staple in my kitchen.

I use this the product all the time and so far it does what I want it to do. Works great. My initial dissapointment was that they dont explain that the fine dicer slicer is only for fruit. However, I have used it just like the other 2 slicer boards with onion, pepper's, etc - No problems yet. Cleaning is not too bad, but its definetely a new chore - but still beats slicing all the vegetables... Does not feel like a cheap piece of plastic in your hands either, pretty sturdy - I haven't had it long enough to give it a 5 star rating but at this point - I recommend it.

I have a healthy suspicion for all 'as seen on TV' products, but I LOVE this chopper. Even if you're not a gadget freak this will save you time chopping anything in your kitchen that needs chopping. I use this almost every day and have been since I bought it in September, still works great!
Get this one instead of the Vidalia chopper - I have tried both and this one works better - it has a more durable top that won't flex when you push it down.

I've owned a vidalia chopper for years, and loved it, but it finally had one hard push too many and cracked. I found this Progressive Chopper that had everything my vidalia had in addition to a storage case and an extra set of blades for slicing (fabulous for mushrooms and srawberries). I couldn't be happier with this product. It's sturdy, easy to use and clean, and worth every cent of it's small price.
