Egg Beater without a beat,

The hand Egg Beater we used for several years had a broken handle making it difficult to use. I went looking for a replacement, but most companies only sell electric beaters these days and not the hand type. The folks who sold this particular product were a very good and responsive company sending another replacement when the first one did not work. I do not fault them in the least because they really tried to satisfy me. The product is not any kind of good quality Egg Beater I have ever used. This one did not even turn fresh out of the packaging. The second (replacement) Egg Beater also was dead on arrival. The cost of the item was $12 plus shipping. As they say, "You get what you pay for." I solved the problem by going to Williams Sonoma and purchased an outstanding Egg Beater for $19. Works like a charm. While I was disatisfied with the product, I would do business with these folks in the future with other brand name products. Stay away from the "Progressive International Egg Beater." Thank you, Herb Hayde

This beater has a very smooth mechanism, although it's not very tough or sturdy, I certainly wouldn't try to mix any heavy or stiff batters with it and I wouldn't expect it to last long with daily use. However it's perfect for the occasional use when my toddler (whose scared of the electric mixer) and I want to have a cup cake baking session.

Great little beater.,

No don't take me wrong, I would not trade my electric mixer, food processer or bread maker for the world, but then I would hate to run my kitchen without this little hand held beater. The action of this particular model is super smooth. I personally use mine only for eggs and very, very light mixing jobs where I do not want to make much of a mess. This Progressive gets the job done and done well. I do a lot of cooking with eggs, being a big omelet fan, as are most of my friends, and this beater gets a pretty good workout on a daily bases. I have had this one for around a year now and have had no problems. Besides that, this one looks very similar to the one my mother used and my swine of a sister made off with that one. This is not the same as having my mom's old one, but it works anyway. I always sort of home my sister beats up some cake frosting someday, continues her disgusting habit of licking everything so no one else can, and gets her tongue caught in the thing. Anyway, this is a great little beater.

Back to basics: a good, old-fashioned egg beater,

Once in awhile we find the need to get back to fundamentals in the kitchen, to go back to those appliances like Grandma used before the days of power appliances. Had occasion recently to try out a good, old-fashioned hand mixer, commonly known to many as an egg beater, and it was this Progressive International Egg Beater that really impressed me with its efficiency. We do some cooking with eggs on the weekends. We like to create a variety of omelets now and then, or sometimes want to whip up a batch of pancakes. And it's frequently too much of a bother to pull out the electric hand mixer, fiddling with cords and beaters, to do these simple tasks. That's where this simple egg beater comes in handy. It's simple, quiet and does the job. It has highly-efficient beaters which are ideal for eggs, pancake batter, whipping cream and more. The stainless steel beaters have a 2-1/2 diameter that allow it to fit easily in measuring cups or smaller mixing bowls. A simple turn of the handle starts its beating action, and when we're finished, it takes a quick rinse and into the dishwasher it goes. Don't take me wrong, I'm not ready to give up on electrical appliances. I already have a great power mixer, a Cuisinart HM-50 Power Advantage 5-Speed Hand Mixer and for heavier or more complex tasks, it works perfectly. But there are times that it's overkill when all we need is something simple. This was a recent purchase, and there were others on the market to pick from, in a wide range of prices. Already own the 19-Piece Measuring Set and the Meat Pounder from Progressive International, so I'm comfortable with their quality, and found this manual hand mixer to be a good choice. The red handle, rotator and crank go with nothing at all in our kitchen, but I don't care as it's easier to find at a glance when looking through a drawer full of kitchen gadgets. Going back to the basics is a good thing - it's a great old-fashioned egg beater that works.

We received this egg beater loose in a box with an ice cream scoop. When it arrived, it would barely turn. After close examination, it turns out that the side braces were bent. It didn't have its own box, and apparently it had pressed against something (the ice cream scoop?) and the side braces bent slightly so that the beaters were out of alignment. I suspect some of the other negative reviews saying it wouldn't turn had the same issue. It was very easy to bend back into shape as the braces are so thin. Then it turned smoothly, but as soon as we tried to use it the beater fell apart. The weld on the bottom didn't hold at all. The gear mechanism is plastic and probably wouldn't hold up well under heavy use either, but we'll never find out as we are returning it for a refund. We also noticed that this beater is almost identical to our older KitchenAid hand beater that we are replacing. The main difference is this one has more plastic parts, such as the red wheel in the center, whereas the KitchenAid is mostly metal (and lasted much longer). This beater should be made with better quality parts, and come in a box for protection in shipping. For occasional use only.

I bought this as a back up in case my mixer either breaks or the power goes out. You can't expect much for the price but it will get me by for what I need. The quality is not excellent.

I just got this, and so far, I have had no problems. My only complaint is that it is not silver & red like in the photo, but more of a silver and chocolate color so it doesn't match my kitchen decor.

My Wife Loves Hers,

My wife asked for an old fashioned egg beater. Not just for eggs, but for a number of things where she wanted more control and a slower mixing speed. While this may not be built as well as those from fifty years ago, it are solid and works fine and smooth. Others have complained about their orders, but there are no problems with ours. Our old and new mixers sit idle as this is usually the "mixer" she grabs. Instant "on", no cord to plug in and cleanup is the same as with a corded mixer.

It's sad but true, I really spent way too much time buying this beater-- a replacement for the beater I took from my Mom when I moved out 25 years ago. I was leery about buying one with plastic parts, but this seems just as well-made as the all metal tool I used for all those years. I own a b&b so I cook breakfast almost every day of the year. I beat eggs almost every day of the year. This beater has been in constant service since it got into my hands about 2 or 3 weeks ago.The mechanism turns nicely and doesn't constantly jam up like my old one was starting to do. I frequently beat heavier items with it, like batters, and it turns just as smoothly as it does beating eggs. Will it last 25 years? I don't know. For the price I wouldn't begrudge buying a replacement in 10 years. |
