The one we had for years finally started tearing and this is the only place I could find thin ones like it online.

It's a well-rehearsed drill in our household - a jar can't be opened in the kitchen and I'll hear my wife calling up the stairs for me to come help. Usually it's a chance for me to remind her of what a stud-muffin I am; using my herculean strength I choke-hold my target and dominate it with my fierce (manly) grip. This scenario usually ends with a romcom-worthy smooch from my wife for being such a hero...either that or a "thanks babe" and we both go back to whatever we were doing.

One day, I heard my name being called and I knew it was go-time. I put down the tree I had been felling with my bare hands and dashed into the kitchen ready to save the day once again. On this occasion I took the jar of Bertolli Organic Pasta Sauce in my vice-like grip, gave it a steely glare that said "prepare to shed some blood/tomato sauce", took a deep breath, and twisted.

Nothing.

Perplexed, I flexed my muscles (more for effect than anything else) and with the grunt of a South-African Rugby player, put everything I had into opening my soon-to-be-vanquished foe. Imagine my horror when my grip started to slip on the lid...

I put the jar down, nonplussed. This was a first for me; two of the most important things in my life hung in the balance - my pride, and my dinner. I fumbled my way to one of our kitchen chairs, the full effect of an identity-crisis taking the strength out of my legs.

Of course it was at this time that my wife's 75 year-old grandmother decided to potter into the kitchen.

This set of jar openers is inexpensive and works very well. Because of the low price, I bought 2 sets on faith and was not disappointed. One opener has a cone shape with a small raised center that fits neatly over narrow screw tops such as on water bottles. The 2 others are for jars. The openers have no moving parts so can't break down, give you an excellent grip, and work as well or better than the more expensive jar openers. That being said, if you have rheumatoid arthritis, a mechanical opener might be better for you. Otherwise, this is the way to go.

After years of using dish towels or paper towels or asking someone else to open a jar that was either stuck or too slippery for me to open, I finally broke down and started to search for some jar openers. I had remembered seeing them at other people's houses, but had never used them. I came across these and was a little hesitant because of the whole "you get what you pay for" feeling I have sometimes. But I decided to give it a try anyway, placed an order and it shipped and arrived quickly. (Amazon Prime is such a godsend!) Tore into the easy to open packaging, (none of that hermetically sealed, bullet-proof, sharper than freshly broken glass plastic packaging) popped them into a drawer and promptly made a mental note that they were in there (i.e. forgot about them)...

Then, a little while later, I came across a jar with a stubborn lid that I could not get off. Even the hot water trick did not help. I finally remembered that I had bought these openers and got one out...MAN, did it make opening the jar easy! They grip the lids nicely and they're comfortable to use. Now whenever I have the slightest problem opening up a bottle or jar, I immediately break those suckers out and the problem goes away. :) (Note: If you have a weak grip, you may want to invest in a mechanical jar opener instead.)

They seem durable and I've had no problem with them so far, so I'm a happy customer. And besides, even if they wear out, they're only $5-6.

I was often to be found stalking bank openings and health fairs at work.
Not because of any deep seated interest in either, but I was always on the lookout for these handy little jar openers. It was only recently that I decided to come to Amazon to see if they were available to buy. I was thrilled to find that Amazonwas once again offering me exactly what I wanted for a good price.

I plan on buying some for everyone I know! I use one or another of them almost daily. Stcok up! these are great shower gifts and just thinking of you gifts for you middle aged friends :) No kitchen should be without half a dozen of these!]

These are the softest openers for your hands. They grip the jar and lids great. The small one for soda caps or water bottles is terriffic. Would reccommend especially for smaller frame women with no arm muscle around.

My wife tells me that these are not as good/sturdy as some freebies she has had in the past. I bought these to replace the last of the freebies. I must admit that the "feel" is not the same. We have a round which is thicker and larger than the round offered. The 'freebie" has a better grip.

Was just looking for one square rubber one when I saw this set. Three different types for almost any job you can think of opening and some you did not. Bought two sets, one for me and one for someone else as a birthday gift. They said they would probably never use them. Wrong, three weeks later they called and said "can't believe how easy these things make my life now opening jar lids, bottle tops etc.". I seriouly love these things too!
