Works well only with the right sized avacado,
By
This review is from: Progressive International Avocado Slicer (Kitchen)
I am an avacado fan. So, when I came across this tool, I thought, "aha... something to save me time in the kitchen". Well, that's only partially true.
If I have an avacado the same width as the avacado slicer, then all is right with the world. A simple motion of pressing into the avacado half and pulling towards me, and I end up with evenly spaced slices. What could be simpler or quicker! Alas, there is a downside. If your avacado is smaller in width than the slicer, your in for a messy situation. The slicer no longer slides through the avacado, it gets caught on the tough skin (it is wider than the avacado in this situation) and the once even slices are now mashed and part of the avacado peel sticks to the slicer. I spent more time cleaning up after the slicer and my slices were no longer uniform. In this case, I would have been better off using my knife.

For anyone who eats avocados, this is a must have! I've never had problems with mine, no matter what the size of the avocado. It's easy to use, and avocados are pliable enough that I've always managed to make the slicer fit within the avocado. This tool is such a timesaver and makes such neat little slices that are handy for anything.

Guacamole in Half the time,
I use this thing anytime I want to make guacamole and it's great! I totally disagree w/ the other review. All it takes is a little practice and you can clean out the inside of the skin easily. It takes about 1/4 of the time it takes to physically peal the skin off after quartering it w/ a knife (and that's if the skin's not flaking off!) Between this and a food chopper, you can make great guacamole in 10 minutes.
It's also fairly simple to clean as well. I just run it under hot water for a minute and that pretty much gets it all off. Just make sure you do it right after using it. Then stick it in the washer, or if you hand wash, use a brush. No biggie. I'm not usually big on specialized gadgets, but for as often as I eat avocados, this is more than worth the $$.

You are way better off using a knife,
This works, but in most cases it is more trouble than using a knife. Unless you have some reason to actually want to use it for the fancy wave cuts. It is very difficult to clean, especially at the part where the wires fan out from. It also tends to either leave too much avocado behind attached to the skin, unless you really make an effort to force it along the skin, and then sometimes you end up with bits of skin attached.

Huge Timesaver!,

I used to spend five awkward minutes with a knife trying to peel and/or slice an avocado for the salad. There's nothing like having the right tool for the job! Now it's down to about one minute (which is nice when I'm cooking other dishes at the same time), and the even slices of avocado make me look like an artiste.

One of the few kitchen gadgets I really like. Replacing my first one which broke a wire when trying to slice an avocado that wasn't ripe enough, so be careful there. Otherwise, perfect for sushi slices or salads. Disigned for Haas avocados, which are the ones you want to use anyhow.

I agree with another reviewer, C. Meyer. This is a lovely tool if your avocado falls within a a certain size. I eat several avocados a week when I can find them, so I am quite familiar with preparing these little guys. Most of the time, this tool works great, but I have actually found that a regular spoon and good quality knife does a better job. Plus you already have those lying around! Also, this thing is a pain to wash by hand...you'll want to throw it in the dishwasher...
All-in-all, I definitely don't regret buying it. I really do use it quite a lot, but there are occasions where I'd just rather use a big spoon and my knife.

A must have for avacado lovers..,
I've had this product for a few years and love love love it. Once you half and pit your avocado it slices and removes it from the skin in seconds. It is much faster/cleaner than a knife. Once you figure out how to use it, you have minimal waste. I've had many guests see me use it and request to know where I got it.

So far, this has worked well on all the avocados we have used it on, but, then again, we tend to buy avocados that are medium-sized. That being said, this works great! It quickly scoops and slices avocados into nice, thin slices that are perfect for whatever you'd like to eat them on.
The only difficulty we've encountered thus far is that if you let the avocado set on it and don't clean it right after you use it (when the avocado bits on it are still soft), then it becomes very hard to clean it since the avocado settles and hardens into the areas where the wire fits into the outside perimeter. This really hasn't been a big deal for us, though, and we've been happy with it to this point.
