3.0 out of 5 stars Okay, but not great
I bought this lettuce keeper after throwing away heads of lettuce after 2-3 days. The reviews on Amazon touted this as keeping lettuce fresh for weeks. I have not found this to always be the case. I've been using it now for 3 months and I buy new lettuce every week. It's helped me keep my lettuce for a full week, but after 7 days, it's quite brown and that dark green...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Solution I've Found, January 1, 2009

The reason I stopped eating salads daily was they go bad in the refrigerator too fast. So upon realizing that I need fresh salads for optimal health, I decided to explore options for preserving them. After examining various 'vacuum seal' options, the Lettuce Keeper jumped out as the most logical looking solution. Vegetables, just like plants in the ground, need some air circulation, and the Lettuce Keeper system has all the aspects of vegetable preservation covered. It even has a lower tray from which water evaporates into the storage chamber, which is ventilated. Evaporation and ventilation are applied differentially to various vegetables and fruits.

My experience with the Lettuce Keeper confirms my initial impression of it. It preserves salads far longer than I've seen with any other storage medium I've used. After a week contents show no sign of spoilage or aging. I've not tried any 'vacuum seal' containers, so I can't compare this to that, but I can say this works very well! As per the initial critical review here, the instructions say to place the lid and all on a dishwasher's top rack. I couldn't be happier with this device; and thanks to it, I can be healthier too!

5.0 out of 5 stars This item is truly a salad keeper, May 23, 2009

I have been on a diet, eating lots of salads, and have tried everything I could think of to keep the lettuce fresh. Even after purchasing a salad spinner, which I liked ok, I was still throwing a lot of lettuce away because it became wilted and brown. Then I purchased this salad keeper and the result has been a total turn-around in the condition and longevity of my lettuce.

I first cut up (with a plastic lettuce knife - don't use metal knives on lettuce), washed and spun my lettuce out in the salad spinner. I then put it in this salad keeper, opening the vents and putting 1/2 cup of water in the bottom as the directions state. The last bowl of lettuce was taken out for use about a week after it was first put in there and it was just as crisp as could be and only a few little brown spots. In fact, the first time I took the keeper out of the frig to make a salad the lettuce was actually more crisp than when I put it in there fresh.

If you like salads and want to keep your lettuce fresh, purchase one of these. I'll never be without it again.

This definitely keeps lettuce longer than in the store-bought bags or plastic clamshell casing. I haven't calculated how much longer in days, but I know I have been surprised when I dig in there to make a salad and realize the lettuce is still good! I make sure to fluff out the lettuce as much as possible when I put it in the lettuce keeper, otherwise moisture and condensation between the lettuce leaves can turn it into slimy gunk, even with the best storage solution. Yes, the top doesn't stay on really well and could probably have been better designed, but the keeper isn't meant to be put into the refrigerator on it's side. Keep it upright and everything will be fine!

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps lettuce from browning, November 29, 2009
This review is from: Progressive International LKS-06 Lettuce Keeper (Kitchen)
We live in Hawaii. Since the climate is very warm and moist, most of our fruits and vegetables go bad within a week if they are uneaten, especially lettuce. This lettuce keeper has allowed us to keep lettuce for up to three or four WEEKS before it gets brown. Here are some notes about how we use it

1) We don't actually ever add any water. It's humid enough here that we don't need to.
2) You need to LEAVE space in the container. If you pack in too much, then the vegetables can't breathe, and you're defeating the whole point.
3) We have never washed this in the dishwasher, and the lid is fine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great, February 5, 2010
This review is from: Progressive International LKS-06 Lettuce Keeper (Kitchen)
I bought this impulsively and it spent a year in storage, never used. Then I decided to eat healthier, which meant more produce. I dusted it off and put it to use and was truly shocked by it's amazing performance. Generally speaking, lettuce seems to stay fresh only a matter of days without this lettuce keeper. But with the Lettuce Keeper, the period of freshness was extended to a much more generous 2 weeks.

My only complaint is that the stretchy lid is not very forgiving about the fact my brother decided to run it through the dishwasher a couple of times. It's warped and no longer will create a complete seal around the top. I'm living with it, but I'm hoping that I will be able to find a replacement lid at some point. Definitely avoid putting the lid in your dishwasher.

I bought this lettuce keeper after throwing away heads of lettuce after 2-3 days. The reviews on Amazon touted this as keeping lettuce fresh for weeks. I have not found this to always be the case. I've been using it now for 3 months and I buy new lettuce every week. It's helped me keep my lettuce for a full week, but after 7 days, it's quite brown and that dark green "mush" occurs around the edges of the lettuce. It has extended my lettuce for a few extra days, but not weeks. And this has happened to different types of lettuce - romaine, bagged lettuce, green leaf lettuce, etc. It's also rather large. If you plan on putting it in your refrigerator's produce bins, it'll probably take up the entire bin. It's a good investment, but I wouldn't say it's a miracle product that keeps vegetables fresh for a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fresh vegetables for weeks, April 25, 2009

It is unbelievable!!!
Vegetables that I bought and used to be withered in 2 or 3 days now last for weeeks and weeks.

Buying one of this is ensure your vegetables will remain fresh for a very long time.
Although it is called lettuce keeper you can keep a large variety of vegetables.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this keeper!, October 18, 2009

I ordered this lettuce keeper about 8 months ago and just love it. I have another lettuce keeper and decided to give them both a test. I put lettuce in both and a week later my other keepers lettuce was wilted and had dark spots. This lettuce keeper still was fresh and crisp. I have had no problems with the lid it goes on great and fits tight. A must have!

I really like this product and it does what it says. I have been using it for about a month. It keeps my lettuce much fresher for much longer. I would have rated it a five but after using it for a few weeks the lid has split on the seam. It has about a 2 inch tear in it now. I still use it as it lets some air in other place. I think I may just put some duct tape over it but it will not look as nice. It does take alot of room up in the fridge but it works well. I also like that it has two different compartments.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best lettuce/vegatable keeper, November 10, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Progressive International LKS-06 Lettuce Keeper (Kitchen)
I like this for keeping produce fresh and lettuce crisp for a long time. I have a Tupperware vegatable keeper and hate it. The produce sits right in any water from rinsing the produce and rots quicker. I highly recommend. I have 2 :)!
