Small, but mighty,

I eat a lot of fresh, organic berries. Let's face it, if you're shelling out the bucks, you want those things to last longer than a day or two. Plus, I am a little pathological about mushy berries (yuck), so this seemed like a no-brainer.
If you mainly eat berries that come in small portions- blueberries, raspberries, etc: this will fit your needs nicely. There's a small lift-out insert if you want to keep things separated- nice touch. If you're looking to store strawberries, I doubt this would hold the contents of a standard green plastic "strawberry basket"- especially if you have some enormous berries in there. If you want strawberry storage, you'd be much happier with the larger Progressive Produce Keepers, which are roomier and probably multi-task a lot more than this does (at a similar price). Still it's cute, and it works! FYI- Whole berries last a lot longer in here than sliced- I have had strawberries in here for a week that still look perfect, but if they're sliced, you only have a day or so.

Good, but little,

I had prefiously bought the big version: the Lettuce Save version, and am completely satisfied with that. Upon seeing this item I got very excited and began reading the reviews....all said it was small. I decided to buy anyways because I checked out the dimensions and figured it was "good enough". Well, it is, and I'm not completely dissappointed; however, it is smaller that I imagined, even with really checking out the dimensions. Forget putting strawberries in it for sure, and only a handful or two of grapes can fit. It's great for blueberries and okay for rasperries/blackberries. The little shelf that makes this a double decker unit is really nice. I did buy a 2nd for my boyfriend, but warned him that it's pretty much a "blueberry holder"

This is totally useless. I should have checked the dimensions before ordering. The picture makes it look large. It would be useful as a lunchbox insert not for storing any quantity of berries. I'm returning this item.

This works fine except for the size. I don't think it holds a quart of berries, more like a pint.

This is such a clever little gizmo. With most berries costing a fortune, opening the fridge to find they've grown green fuzz overnight is upsetting. But there are only so many berries even I can eat at once, and until now, wasting half the container was frustrating but inevitable. This is so easy to use: You stack your berries in two layers, so they are not pressing down on one another making themselves go soft, you open the little vent (it's marked "Berries/Cherries" and "Citrus/Grapes, so there is no confusion on which way to turn the marker) and even strawberries stay fresh and fuzz-free for about four or five days. The one drawback is the size. You can't fit in any large berries, and most baskets have at least two or three of those monsters. It will hold smaller berries very well, but even medium sized ones get crushed when you put on the lid. Ideally the berry keeper could be at least another inch or so higher. Of course, you can always gobble up the ones that don't fit while you're putting away the groceries, but that would be cheating. Or just serve them that day. With brown sugar and sour cream...if you haven't tried this, you are missing one of the best things in life. The container also says "Citrus/Grapes." Hello? Who buys 20 grapes at a time? They usually come in 1 lb bags at the market. And how do you choose which ones to save and which ones will just have to survive any way they can in the refrigerator. Do I need that kind of pressure? Cherries don't make a lot of sense either, since they're sold by the pound too. And citrus? You can't even squeeze one of those giant Steriod Strawberries into the berry keeper, let alone a lemon or lime, and they last forever anyway. If the manufacturer is referring to kumquats, I guess they'd fit, so maybe this is a big life-changing brekthrough for kumquat eaters. But personally, I don't know any. The Berry Keeper is really good for storing berries and not much else. Which is still pretty good...check out the price of raspberries at the market lately? Losing half the tiny basket you shelled out three to six bucks for hurts. Now if somebody would only invent a strawberry that tastes like a strawberry, we'd be all set.

Never Seemed To Work As Well As It Should,

We bought this thinking we could keep the blueberries and blackberries we buy fresher longer - maybe up to a week.
We never seemed to gain any extra time before they would go bad over the store packaging. It does provide a nice storage container for berries but as far as lengthing the time, it doesn't seem to.

Very good product, handy that the bottom comes off and it's your strainer - nice to not get another dish dirty! Only wish were for it to be a bit bigger....One pint of blueberries fills it full.
It has kept our berries nice and fresh longer than leaving in the store container.

Great for Delicate Berries,

As most reviewers say this is not a large keeper. It would not keep strawberries, but for raspberries, blackberries, blueberries it is great. I keep blueberries on the bottom and raspberries on the top. Works good and just the right size as these are delicate and don't last long.

I purchased this because I have had incredible success with its big brother, the lettuce keeper. This works fine, but it is very small. Really really small. Holds about .5 lbs. of strawberries if you take the divider out. It probably works better for blueberries or even blackberries, which are smaller than strawberries. I think I'll purchase another lettuce keeper for strawberries.

Too Small,

The product arrived on time but when I opened it I thought it would be bigger than what I got. It only hold like a few berries not the whole container you purchase. Need to be bigger.
Thank you! |
