I love, love, love this little contraption. I have a Black and Decker steamer, which works well too, but I can't stand the cleanup on those things. You have to take it apart, try and get all excess material out of the grid, try to wash the base without immersing the electrical cord...even with the metal in-basket steamers you come across the same messy cleanup involving two or three pieces and/or pots and pans. Which, I suppose, wouldn't be a problem for someone wanting to make several servings of steamed veggies, but when it's just you...you don't want the hassle. With this little steamer (which is about the same size as most cereal bowls) I can make individual portions of veggies in a matter of minutes in the microwave. Which is good because I like to shake it up a bit on my seasonings and this gives me the flexibility of making different flavors each time. I just sprinkle on the toppings before zapping the items. Cleanup is where it really, really shines. The slits in the plastic aren't as hard to clean as a grid or those metal steaming baskets that seem to trap everything in their folds. Just immerse in water and clean like a regular bowl. And with only a tablespoon or two of water added before cooking, there's less chance of "drowning" your food. Always a good thing. Can't say enough good things about this steamer.

This is a great product, especially for a smaller family. I would have given it 5 stars but the directions are a little lacking. It has to have a fair amount of water in it (not just a couple of tablespoons) but it works very well.

I bought this for using at work to have a healthier
alternative to the cafeteria. It does the job and makes
the right amount of steamed vegetables for a single serving.
I'd estimate it takes at least about 1 1/2 cups raw veggies by
volume if not a little more. I followed the directions and
put inside the measured amount of recommended water, but now
I just turn on the faucet and put in what looks about the same
as the measured amount. I also reduce the power on the microwave to a medium high and follow the recommended minutes for the different veggies. I wrote on the bottom with a permanent ink pen the recommended times and water amount as a reminder for myself. After microwaving the directions say to keep the steamer closed for a few minutes. So far I've steamed broccoli/cauliflower/carrots and green beans in it with perfect results. Made in China

If you don't have one of these, you've got two options:

1. Boil your vegetables on the stovetop, and lose valuable nutrients upon drainage.

2. Develop a dependance on those expensive microwave steaming bags.


I buy most of my vegetables in bulk; large bags of frozen Bird's Eye blends. This microwave steamer has provided me with the gift of extreme convenience. I was one of those people who was always getting caught with my bag down (heh), and found myself constantly rushing to the grocery store to replenish my supply of steaming bags. What a pain in the gluteus maximus! But now that I have this fabulous steamer, I am free from that bondage! I can have a serving of freshly steamed vegetables at any time of the day, on a whim. It's so easy... and cleanup? What cleanup?! Just rinse it out afterwards, and you're done! It's products like this that will help keep busy individuals out of the McDonald's drive-thru. Isn't that exactly what most Americans are looking for? Quick & healthy? This little steamer helps one to achieve that goal.

I am happy with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone looking to quickly and easily steam food for one.

It is quick and easy to use, easy to clean up. As others have pointed out, the directions are less than specific; but they give you a starting point. I put enough water in to just cover the whole bottom (it is convex, so it is probably a few tablespoons). Their suggested time works pretty well, but tweaking it slightly may give you better results (altitude, humidity, and personal preference).

This is a great microwave personal size steamer. The steamer insert has an inside diameter of 5 inches and is 2 1/2 inches deep. It can hold about 8 ounces of carrot or zucchini slices, 2 mini-cobs of frozen corn, about 9 1/2 ounces of peas or chopped broccoli or spinach. You might be able to squeeze a little extra above the edge of the insert since the lid has a depth of 1 inch. As everyone says, it steams perfectly and clean up is a breeze.

Great little steamer, perfect for one person. Cauliflower takes just 2min, and all you do is rinse the steamer, no messy clean-up. I love it and buying another one for a friend as a gift.

This steamer was just what I was seeking for preparing steamed vegetables at work. I was juryrigging a microwave steamer with a ceramic bowl and plate--not a convenient solution. This mini-steamer was the perfect anecdote! It works great for a single serving of fresh veggies. It comes with a little chart that tells you how many minutes to cook different types of veggies. Easy to use, easy to clean. Get your CDC-recommended daily serving of veggies with help from this little steamer!

I have had this steamer for one year and I use it several times per week for steaming vegetables in the microwave. It is a small steamer that only holds about a cup and a half of vegetables so it is perfect for two people. The water heats up very quickly so it typically steams the vegetables within three minutes. The steam basket comes out and it is easy to use as a small strainer for cleaning strawberries or raspberries. The best part about this steamer is that you can throw it right in the dishwasher for easy cleaning. I love this steamer and I would never go back to using a pot with boiling water.

So far this product has been easy to clean and it does not seem to show any stains from vegetables. It steams quite well, it's always very hot when taking out of the microwave, and it creates steam very effectively. It seems that finding the correct water level and amount of time in the microwave may take a few tries since they probably vary based on quantity and type of vegetables. It can hold a good sized handful of veggies and it steams them all evenly, although it is probably not suitable for portion sizes beyond 2 people for dinner. I would recommend this product to others.
